Japan Attacks China • Peace over Korea was broken by the Chinese • Japanese troops destroyed the Chinese navy and gained Taiwan and its neighboring islands as colonies • Russo-Japanese War • Russia and Japan fought over Manchuria • Japan ended up winning Korea and Manchuria, Russians were forced to move out

Japanese Occupation • Attacked Korea and made it a protectorate • Grabbed power from the Korean government • 1910, Japan annexed Korea • Harsh Rulers • Shut down Korean newspapers took over schools • Took land away from farmers and business away from Koreans, gave it to the Japanese • Korean nationalism began to grow • The rest of the world didn’t pay attention
