  1. TELOS JUNE 08 MAPPING SPIRITUAL JOURNEYS ENLIGHTENED SELF – ENLIGHTENED ORGANISATIONS TRANSFORMATION NOT SIMPLE LINEAR PROGRESSION BUT IN AND THROUGH REAL HISTORICAL PEOPLE, MOVEMENTS, EVENTS AND CHANGE. WE ARE NOT JUST WHERE WE ARE – BUT WHERE WE’VE BEEN AND WHERE WE ARE GOING.. NOTHING GUARANTEED ABOUT PRESENT AS BASIS FOR FUTURE. ROME FELL. THINGS CHANGE, STUFF HAPPENS. WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR PART AND INFLUENCE OF OTHERS

  2. Keep in mind – enlightened self and enlightened organisation Enlightenment achievement - rationality Enlightenment weakness - rationality

  3. What kind of new 21st century world is appearing because of our times and our contribution? Yes, global tensions, climate change, food scarcity, civil and religious unrest, genocide, terrorism, instability… Most problems of the past still with us Yes, Global opportunities for connectedness, new learning and wisdom, personal and organisational development, new technology + new attitudes – responsibility, care, love Most are challenges of the future

  5. Enlightenment spirit In 1772 J.S. Priestley stood before the Royal Society “…this air is of exhausted common nature... A candle burned in this air with an amazing strength of flame, but to prove the superior quality of this air I introduced a mouse into it who would have died within a quarter of an hour but within this excellent air lived for an hour and it was taken out quite vigorous’

  7. BELIEF IN GOD or other BELIEF SYSTSEMS SPIRITUAL VALUES See Antoinette’s list BEHAVIOURS ACHIEVEMENTS Common sense or middle axioms ENLIGHTENMENT QUESTION WHAT HAPPENS IF WE TAKE BELIEF IN GOD AWAY..DOES IT MEAN THAT SLOWLY DIFFERENT VALUES OR BEHAVIOURS EMERGE OR DOES IT MEAN THAT God is in the values and behaviours anyway –

  8. LOVE’S ENERGY AS SOURCE OF OTHER - CREATION THE POSSIBILITY OF FULFILLMENT LOVE’S ENERGY- CREATING HUMAN FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY FORGIVENESS BELIEF IN SACRED POTENTIAL OF ALL THINGS & ALL PEOPLE GOODNESS LOVE OF STRANGER AND ENEMY ‘OTHERS’ AS LINK BETWEEN PURPOSE AND FULFILMENT CHANGE FOR BETTER JUSTICE AND MERCY ORDINARY CARRIES EXTRAORDINARY HEALING INDIVIDUALS AND SITUATIONS

  9. Where is the spirit in Individuals and organisations

  10. Not spiritual values but actions The spirit as the source or subject of actions and things which happen – whether or not the word Spirit is used. The Spirit Leads us into all truth Think organisations The Spirit is the Comforter The Spirit Guides The Spirit broods over Creation The Spirit fills with hope and joy – and the gifts of the spirit The Spirit puts a new spirit within them and a new heart

  11. SOME EXAMPLES – THINK ORGANISATIONS and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship Job 34:14 If he set his heart on himself, If he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Thou hidest Thy face -- they are troubled, Thou gatherest their spirit -- they expire, And unto their dust they turn back. Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, than to divide the plunder with the proud.

  12. Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him. Common usage Unclean Or evil spirit What is that in organisations? Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness But if I by the Spirit of God cast out demons, Immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness His father, Zacharias, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, It is the Spirit who gives life.

  13. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming When he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit! They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak 'It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.

  14. You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do. But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered. Now I entreat you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to cultivate a spirit of harmony--all of you--and that there be no divisions among you, but rather a perfect union through your having one mind and one judgement For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

  15. For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God, except God's Spirit. Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is judged by no one. Don't you know that you are a temple of God, and that God's Spirit lives in you? But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all. For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;

  16. who also made us sufficient as servants of a new covenant; not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. If we live by the Spirit, let's also walk by the Spirit being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace Dependent on Him, the whole body--its various parts closely fitting and firmly adhering to one another-- grows by the aid of every contributory link, with power proportioned to the need of each individual part, so as to build itself up in a spirit of love and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,

  17. Be ever on your guard against a grudging and contentious spirit Don't quench the Spirit. Do not speak evil of any one, nor be contentious, but yield unselfishly to others and constantly manifest a forgiving spirit towards all men. Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Do nothing in a spirit of factiousness or of vainglory, but, with true humility, let every one regard the rest as being of more account than himself

  18. The most basic task of leaders is to unleash the human spirit which makes initiative, creativity, and entrepreneurship possible. Christopher A. Bartlett & Sumantra Ghoshal, Harvard Busines Review, May - June 1995

  19. Quotes from where? Something shone through It was convincing and compelling He drew us into who he really was His personality and passion took control This transcended everything else We were swept away with emotion She touched us deeply He was completely comfortable and at home He reached out and communicated Young musician of the year - judges comments on winners of differentcategories. Comments on other competitors were all about technical issues NOT SO FOR WINNERS! Why not in the workplace?? APPLY to secretaries, salespeople, HR, leaders, line managers – producers of goods and services etc

  20. The spiritual revolution Something incredible is happening (name for God) within us and around us we may be too close to it – we can only see evidence of its absence – the things we moan about that go wrong every day globally and in organisations – the things that threaten and destroy it, demanding huge patience and leadership to address them…

  26. AN EXAMPLE The Hallmarks of a Lovemark At the core of every Lovemark is Respect. It’s as simple as that. Check out the Love/Respect Axis and see just where your favourite brand is sitting. A Lovemark’s high Love is infused with these three intangible, yet very real, ingredients: Mystery, Sensuality and Intimacy. QUOTE FROM WHERE?? Saatchi and Saatchi

  27. How do I know a Lovemark? Saatchi and Saatchi Lovemarks transcend brands. They deliver beyond your expectations of great performance. Like great brands, they sit on top of high levels of respect - but there the similarities end. Lovemarks reach your heart as well as your mind, creating an intimate, emotional connection that you just can’t live without. Ever. Take a brand away and people will find a replacement. Take a Lovemark away and people will protest its absence. Lovemarks are a relationship, not a mere transaction. You don’t just buy Lovemarks, you embrace them passionately. That’s why you never want to let go. Put simply, Lovemarks inspire Loyalty Beyond Reason

  28. HIGH HIGH R E S P E C T MYSTERY SENSUALITY INTIMACY L O V E L O V E LOW LOW Saatchi and Saatchi

  29. Mystery draws together stories, metaphors, dreams and symbols. It is where past, present and future become one. Mystery adds to the complexity of relationships and experiences because people are drawn to what they don’t know. After all, if we knew everything, there would be nothing left to learn or to wonder at. Saatchi and Saatchi

  30. Sensuality keeps the five senses on constant alert for new textures, intriguing scents and tastes, wonderful music. Sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste. Our senses work together to alert us, lift us, transport us. When they are stimulated at the same time, the results are unforgettable. It is through the five senses we experience the world and create our memories. Saatchi and Saatchi

  31. Intimacy Means empathy, commitment and passion. The close connections that win intense loyalty as well as the small perfect gesture. These are often remembered long after functions and benefits have faded away. Without Intimacy people cannot feel they own a brand, and without that conviction a brand can never become a Lovemark. Saatchi and Saatchi

  32. “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” • Marcel Proust Spiritual Gaze – a new way of looking

  33. Looking at others and through their way of looking, enriches our perspective - our seeing through and beyond our usual horizons of self and other selves that constitute the organisation, group or community. This needs nourishing in ourselves and encouraging in others The way we look comes from what we believe and what really matters to us. It shapes our values and affects the way we act, behave, speak and decide Enlightenment of self – enlightenment of organisations Spiritual gazea way of looking that leads to a way of living -

  34. We must be still and still moving Into another intensity For a further union, a deeper communion Through the dark cold and the empty desolation The wave cry, the wind cry, the vast waters of the petrel and the porpoise. In my end is my beginning T.S ELIOT Four Quartets.

  35. TRANSACTION CONTRACT REGULATORY LEFT BRAIN LANGUAGE IMPORTANT BUT NOT ENOUGH FOR THE CREATIVE FUTURE OF THE WORLD!

  36. TASK DESIGN THE ETHOS AND EMOTIONAL ARCHITECTURE OF TASK ONE -WORK PLACE OF THE FUTURE? TASK TWO - WELLBEING CENTRE OF THE FUTURE?
