Beginningof floods • floods in Central Europe in 2010 began in the Czech Republic 16th May 2010, when the level of rivers started to lift in northern Moravia • Poland, Slovakia and Hungary were affected by floods at the same time • the second wave of floods mainly affected the eastern and southern parts of Slovakia

  3. EuropeFloodshit Slovakia(summer 2010) • along with other Central European countries, Slovakia was damaged by the disaster • floods became a result of torrential rains that occurred in the region during this summer • dozens of rivers across the country burst their banks

  4. Impact onpeople Thousands were forced to leave their homes in over 900 villages and small towns in eastern Slovakia It destroyed crops, damaged buildings and cars, and left some residents homeless

  5. In numbers • flooded about 2000 square km (17% of arableland) • floods have requested at least 2 victims in Slovakia and totally 34 victims in Europe • total damage was estimated at 695.1 million euros
