  2. Establishment Before- Mongols ruled Yuan Dynasty Overworked people and horrible agriculture Han Chinese Revolted led by Zhu Yuanzhang, who later became HONG WU After-war erupted and the Hans won, and the Dynasty was established in Nanjing in 1368

  5. The Ming Code • Considered one of the greatest achievements of the era • Called for better treatment of slaves • Laid great emphasis on family relations • Slaves became almost citizens

Agricultural Achievements • Divided up land to peasants • No taxations to those who cultivated wastelands • Cultivated land grew to a high no other dynasty has ever reached because of this • Made irrigation systems • Implemented important farming taxations systems “yellow records” and “fish scale records” • Wei-so system gave all soldiers much land and encouraged farming

  7. Other Achievements • Zheng He led several naval expeditions on the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asian archipelago • Reformed Government • Built the great wall of China, well added to it since it had been a work in progress for many years prior • Created networks of secret agents in the military

  8. Decline Reasons For Decline: Hong Wu kicked all others out of power, placing all responsibility on himself Those crazy Manchurians were all over China • Peasant uprisings • Economic troubles • Riots • Corrupt officials • The last emperor of the Ming Dynasty committed suicide
