Emperors and leaders throughout history have utilized various strategies to maintain power, as exemplified by the Ming Dynasty. The Hongwu Emperor, who overthrew the Yuan Dynasty, used military strength to eliminate opposition, established civil service exams to create a loyal bureaucracy, and enacted laws benefiting peasants to win public support. However, his reign was also marked by brutality, as he employed torture and executed dissenters. The construction of the Forbidden City and the expansion of the Great Wall highlight his efforts to solidify authority and protect the realm.
