  4. Confucianism •Ethical system created by Confucius, (deals with human behavior and conduct) •Developed a system of government, society, and justice which shaped China for 2,000 years •5 Basic Relationships • What might they be?

  6. Legalism – became important during civil war years (475-221 BCE…why?) •Human beings are selfish by nature •Believed in strong government control •Strict rules and harsh punishments would ensure order

  7. Taoism • People are happiest when they live according to their nature • Society forces people to live by rules that go against their nature • Yin-yang – Opposing forces in the world working together, (harmony) • Tao – the unseen force behind all living things
