  1. John 16:7-11 • Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. • And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

  2. The work of the holy spirit What did He come to do?

  3. Review The Holy Spirit is equal to Father and Word in nature. Each member worked in material creation. Each member worked in regeneration. Think in terms of thirds in understanding the Bible. • Genesis – Malachi = Father primary worker. • Matthew – John = Word (Christ) primary worker. • Acts – Revelation = Spirit primary worker. Next week narrowing in on the Holy Spirit’s part of the work as revealed in Scripture.

  4. Read The Bible From Front To Back When We Open The Book of Acts (Acts 1:1-11). • 1. Jesus work is finished (John 19:30). • 2. He spends 40 days with the apostles (Acts 1:1-3). • 3. He had promised them the Spirit would come (John 16:7-13). • 4. Christ would baptize them in the Spirit (John 1:29-34). • 5. John 13-17 should be read as a unit.

  5. Read The Bible From Front To Back Continued: • 6. The Lord ascends into heaven (Acts 1:9-11). • 7. Acts 2 begins the work of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4). • 8. We are now 2/3 through the work of God in Redemption. • 9. The Father planned and purposed • 10. The Word became flesh, was born, lived died, rose • 11. The Spirit has come and His work will be to finish, complete the work.

  6. Things Christ Said The Spirit Would Do • Give another comforter (another of the same kind) (John 14:15-18) • The Spirit would teach the apostles (John 14:26). • The Spirit would come when Christ went away (John 16:7) • When He is come He would (John 16:8-11) • The Spirit would guide the apostles into all truth (John 16:13).

  7. The Spirit Would • Reveal God’s Mind (1 Cor. 2:8-13; Eph. 3:1-4). • Inspire Them To Preach (Matthew 10:16-20). • Confirm the Message (Acts 2:1-4; 13-17; 29-33). • Equip The church (1 Corinthians 12:1-11). • Revelation, Inspiration, Confirmation (Joel 2:28-32).

  8. Review: • Read the Bible from front to back. • The Bible is a book of redemption (2 Cor. 5:18-19). • By Acts 2/3rd of the work is complete. • Acts furnishes the basis for understanding the epistles. • The Holy Spirit will reveal God’s Mind. • Inspire the apostles and prophets to preach it. • Confirm the word with signs. • Equip the church. • Next time: How the Spirit Accomplished His Work
