  8. How SmartBob2 Works • When a SmartBob2 remote located at the top of the silo is asked to take measurement, the motor releases a strong stainless steel aircraft cable from the supply pulley and a weight sensor probe descends to the surface of the material. • During the descent, the SmartBob2 remote measures the cable dispensed. A microcontroller counts the pulses from an internal encoder that produces 80 pulses per foot. When the sensor probe touches the material surface, measurement information is transmitted and pulse generation is momentarily stopped. The absence of these pulses immediately causes the motor to reverse and retract the sensor probe. • Should the sensor probe ever slide down an angle of repose in an active vessel or sink in light material, a special mechanical brake on the back of a spring loaded idler arm will release and brake the slotted timing pulley, instantly stopping it. The timing pulley is what generates the pulses and when stopped, reverses the motor to retract the sensor probe. • An electronic control reduces the motor torque during the last 13” of the retract cycle and the pulses again stop when the probe makes soft contact with the flange that then seals the unit, alerting the microcontroller to shut-down the motor. The retract distance is also measured and compared to the descend measurement to assure the sensor probe has fully retracted.

  13. SmartBob2 Mounting Flanges SmartBob2 sensors can be ordered with flat or angled mounting flanges for mounting on a sloped roof. The flanges are available in 0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, and 30°.

  14. Location of Level Sensor When Mounting on a Center Filled Vessel • Mounting location is one-sixth of the vessel diameter in from the outside edge • This approximates the average level when considering the material’s angle of repose • Note the horizontal line drawn where the sensor probe comes into contact with material surface • There is a peak at the center and voids at the side • If you take out peaks and fill in voids it will flatten out the angle of repose and provide the most accurate level reading

  15. SmartBob2 Pipe Extensions The pipe extension is an optional feature that is attached to the SmartBob2 mount. The pipe extension is used to protect the cable from being damaged when the SmartBob remote is mounted on a standoff pipe. It also provides protection to the cable when mounted on a concrete or thick roof deck. Thick Roof Deck Standoff Pipe

  16. SmartBob2 High Temperature Option • The SmartBob2 High Temperature remote is for applications where the process temperature is between 240° and 500°F. This model is built with components designed to safely operate in temperatures up to 500°. • A stainless steel standpipe is used to extend the remote away from the heat source and a stainless steel pipe extension fitted with a Teflon cable guide keeps the sensor probe out of the standpipe and level with the vessel top. • An air purge nipple is standard to allow a small amount of air to circulate through the mechanical cavity of the remote.

  17. SmartBob2 4 to 20 mACommunication Option • The SmartBob2 system is designed for a simple interface between the SmartBob2 Remote Sensor and the PLC or DCS system. • The PLC/DCS can initiate a measurement by providing a dry contact closure to the BinMaster Remote Start Unit (RSU). • The PLC/DCS can then retrieve the measurement from analog 4 to 20 mA current loop output from the RSU. The RSU also provides a remote display and can be used to initiate a manual or timed measurement.

  18. SmartBob Console (C-100) Easily View Measurements from Multiple SmartBob2 Sensors • Compact, manually-operated console provides fast measurement readings from one up to 128 SmartBob remotes at a single location • Provides basic, local control and monitoring of a single SmartBob remote or a network of up to 128 SmartBob remotes at a networked site • Can be used in hardwired or wireless applications SmartBob Console

  26. BMRX & Maxima+ Rotaries “How They Work” • As a high level control, the paddle rotates continuously when material is not present. • When material reaches the paddle, the resistance causes the motor to “de-energize.” This promptly causes a relay to change status and automatically shut-off any process system wired to the relay. • As a low level control the paddle is stopped and the motor is “de-energized” when the material is present. • When material drops below the paddle, the motor “energizes” and the paddle starts rotating. This causes the relay to change status and automatically start-up any process system wired to the relay.

  32. Rotary Mounting Top-Mount Application Side-Mount Application

  33. Rotary Mounting Options

  34. Rotary Mounting Plates Mounting plates allow the rotary units to be mounted from the outside of a vessel on a curved or flat surface. A half coupling mounting plate is used in side mount installations. A full coupling mounting plate is for use in top mount installations where a shaft extension and shaft guards are required. Both mounting plates are available in powder coated carbon steel and stainless steel for use in corrosive environments.

  35. Rotary Couplers, Pipe Extensions & Pipe Guards Solid Shaft Coupler A short solid shaft coupler should be used in side mount installations. It provides stability and protects the internal workings of the unit. Flexible Shaft Coupler The flexible coupler should be used in top mount installations to absorb side loads and protect the internal workings of the unit. Pipe Extensions Top mount installation may require that the paddle extend into the vessel. Galvanized or stainless 1/4” diameter steel shaft extensions are available in a variety of lengths up to 144” (3.3 m). Pipe Guard Pipe guards are recommended in top mount installations when the pipe extensions exceeds 24” ( mm). Pipe guards limit the movement of the pipe extension caused by side loading that can damage the rotary unit. Pipe guards should be the same length as the pipe extension and are available in galvanized or stainless steel.

  36. Rotary Paddles GRP-1, 2, 22, 26, 28, 30 These are all 3-vain Stainless Steel paddles used for both very light and heavy. The paddle size you choose is based on the bulk density of the material. The lighter the material the larger the paddle. Thus, the heavier the material the smaller and stronger the paddle. GRP- 3, 23, 27 These are all insertable Steel paddles used for both very light and heavy materials. These paddle can be inserted directly through a 1 ¼” coupling welded to the vessel with the rotary indicator attached. This eliminates cutting any large hole in the vessel. GRP- 11 & 12 These are economical 3-vain polyethylene paddles. They are available in 5” and 7” diameter.

  37. New Insertable, Collapsible PaddlesSimplify Installation of Rotaries • Paddles collapse to fit through a standard 1-1/4" bin opening • Saves time and work, eliminates the need to cut larger holes in bin or install mounting plates • No need to go into the bin to install or remove the paddle from the bottom of the rotary • Available with new BinMaster rotary level indicators or retrofit onto existing rotaries • 2-paddle and single paddle models for light /medium or heavy /dense materials

  38. Point Level Alarm PanelAlerts to High / Low Levels • Monitors full, partially full, or empty status from four to 24 level indicator stations and sends alerts to operators via a blinking LED light and audible alarm • Easy-to-read LED panel features high and low bin level alarms, power status and acknowledge button • NEMA 4X enclosure is suitable for harsh environments and outdoor locations • Can be used with a variety of level indicators including diaphragm switches, rotary paddles, tilt switches, capacitance probes and vibrating rods
