  1. August 1, 2010 “Working Together” 1 Corinthians 3:5-11

  2. John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

  3. I. We are instruments of God (5-7) • We rely on the power of God to do what He wants done. • We don’t have to have great ability. • We only have to have availability. • This takes the pressure off us. • Neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything. • Only God makes things grow.

  4. II. We are co-laborers (8-9) • Paul and Apollos worked together. • Paul was a planter. • Apollos was a waterer. • The church is a body with different parts.

  5. 1 Corinthians 12:17 “If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?”

  6. 1 Corinthians 12:20 “As it is, there are many parts but one body.”

  7. II. We are co-laborers(8-9) • Paul and Apollos worked together. • Paul was a planter. • Apollos was a waterer. • The church is a body with different parts. • We have one purpose.

  8. Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

  9. II. We are co-laborers (8-9) • Paul and Apollos worked together. • Paul was a planter. • Apollos was a waterer. • The church is a body with different parts. • We have one purpose. • We are God’s fellow workers.

  10. III. We have a common vision (10-11) • Why we need a vision • Where there is no vision, the people perish. • It points us in the same direction. • Where the vision comes from • By the grace of God • An expert builder lays a foundation. • Others build upon it. • The vision of God

  11. Conclusion • The church is built on the foundation of Jesus Christ. • The foundation of our lives is Jesus Christ. • What are we building on?
