  4. 2014-2015 Learning Outcomes

  5. Assignment Expectations • Tests, Quizzes, and Rock ‘N Roll Reviews: • Rock ‘N Roll Reviews are assigned each Monday, and are due the following Monday.  Students have the full week to get questions answered.  • Ready To Go On? Quizzes will be given periodically during a unit to check for understanding. • Unit Assessments will be given at the end of each unit.  • Students scoring below Standard (“3”) on a Unit Assessment will be eligible to retest only: • Interactive Math Notebook is up to date and complete • If all homework and practice is completed • If student attends reteaching and completes additional learning and practice on concepts not mastered

  6. Class Work and Homework • Class work not completed during class is expected to be completed at home for homework and turned in the next day • Homework is our “at home practice” … practice is how we increase our understanding of mathematics and master our skills, much like athletes, musicians and gamers!

  7. Formative and SummativeAssessments Formative Assessments • Exit Tickets • Whole group whiteboard activities • Quick Quizzes/Lesson Quizzes • “Helicopter” Summative Assessments • Ready to Go On? Quizzes • Unit Assessments

  8. Grading • Seventh grade math classes at Evergreen will be using Standards Based Grading this year as follows: Grades are composed of: 70% - Assessments 20% - Quizzes/IMN quizzes and checkups 10% - “At Home Practice” work (formerly known as “homework”) Our Grading Scale • 4 = A Advanced • 3.5 = B+ Proficient + • 3 = B Proficient • 2.5 = C+ Basic + • 2 = C Basic • 1.5 = D+ Below Basic • 1 = D Below Basic • 0 = F

  9. Student Behavior Expectations • Be prompt • Be ready to learn when class begins. • Be prepared • Have materials with you and know due dates. • Be a polite and positive participant • Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. • Be productive • Turn in work on time, and always do your best. • Be a problem solver • Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

  10. Student Responsibility for Coursework • Bring binder, Interactive Math Notebook (IMN), and all necessary materials to class. • Attend class on a regular basis. • Know due dates, and submit all assignments on time. • Refer to assignments listed on the whiteboard and the Teacher Calendar online.

  11. Academic Interventions • I advise students at the beginning of the week which days I’m available after school for additional help from 2:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. • Students who stay after school MUST fill out a Study Club “To Do” list – this helps me know what they need to work on and helps them stay accountable

  12. Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium Common Core • Beginning in the spring of 2015 students will be required to take the Common Core State Standards assessment.

  13. Discipline/Behavior Issues • It is my hope that discipline and behavior issues will not be a major factor. However, in the event it is necessary for me to address certain behaviors, such as a student interfering with another’s learning, Evergreen has a standard management system as follows: • first warning is verbal • second warning is verbal with redirection • third warning is verbal and student is moved to another area of the room • If the student continues to be disruptive he/she is sent to a Buddy Classroom where a Plan of Improvement will need to be completed and approved before returning to his/her original classroom. This Plan of Improvement will become a permanent record in the student’s file, and parents will be notified • ANY actions that create an unsafe environment, or if behaviors are repetitive, will be referred to an administrator

  14. Policies • Food, beverages and gum are not allowed in the classroom. • Please be in your seat when the bell rings, as class begins at that time. • It is expected that each student will complete all class work and homework. • Absences • Refer to the class agenda upon return and gather distributed papers, view the Teacher Calendar online, and ask a classmate about assignments. • Clarify with teacher. • Each excused absence has a one-day grace period.

  15. Respect • Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. • Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. • Honor the ideas and opinions of others. • Offer to help. • Be responsible with property and belongings.

  16. My Pledge to Students • I will trust you until you give me reason to do otherwise. • I will respect you and work with you to solve problems. • I will promptly correct and offer feedback on your work. • I will work with you to meet learning goals. • I will offer extra help and alternative assessments should you require them.
