  3. Climate • Lots of Tornados • More than 100 degree farenhiet in the summer • 10 -50 inches of rain every year • - 10 degrees farenheight in the winter • Lightning makes fire in the grasslands

  4. Human Interaction Negatively • People have took over much of the land • People turned grasslands to farm land • Sometimes farming can harm grasslands • They cut trees

  5. Human interaction positively • Some ranchers raise animals • Some feed animals • They plant plants

  6. Plants • Prairie blazing star • Milkweed • Willows • Coneflower • Prairie cord grass • Boabab tree • And a lot more ……

  7. Animals • Snake • Horses • Eagles • Coyotes • Jack rabbits • Geoffros cat

  8. Black tailed prairie dog appearence • Adults 12-20 inches and 1-2 pounds • Light brown fur • Short flat tail black tipped • Long sharp claws

  9. Predator and prey • Prairie dogs eat grass grasshoppers insects • Predators- foxes, coyotes, badgers, lizards, rattle snakes ,bobcats ,ferrets, falcons, and eagles • Prairie dogs are herbivores

  10. Adaptations • They hide in their burrows • They have sharp claws to dig burrows away from the heat • Sharp eyesight to see through long grass for predators

  11. other interesting facts • Prairie dog makes barking or chirping noises to warn others for predators • Prairie dog from squirrel family • Prairie dog lives in prairie and makes barking noises like dog that’s how it got it’s name • Kinds of grasslands- steppes, prairies, savvana, wild grasses, wheat feilds
