  1. GP Taster Weeks Dr. Amit Sharma

  2. GP Taster Weeks- What does it mean? • 1 week spent in your future ST3 practice during each 6 month hospital placement • Taken as study leave • Ideally tailored to your current hospital placement- examples

  3. Why should I do this? • Flavour of GP • Build rapport with GP trainer and others • Use hospital skills in community • Opportunity to do COTs/other parts of curriculum early • Shows interest and could engage in audits • Time off hospital! • Helps to give direction to hospital placement

  4. How can I do this? • Be proactive! • Speak to your clinical supervisor early and identify week you could use for this • Speak to your GP trainer early • Take as study leave • Justify the week! • Could offer to present to your department on your time in GP. • Emphasise value to your training

  5. Notes • You cannot see patients independently ( your insurance doesn't cover you), supervision essential!! • Definitely worth doing!!!!!! • Any problems, questions- contact me a.sharma@doctors.org.uk
