  1. Balous Miller & Bill Miller family honored at San Antonio Police Department School Safety Program (1888PressRelease) San Antonio businessman and philanthropist, Balous Miller and Bill Miller Bar-B-Q Restaurants honored for community service at annual school safety patrol rally. San Antonio, TX - Balous Miller, partner of San Antonio, Texas based Bill Miller Bar-B-Q Restaurants, was recognized for his family's commitment to community service recently at the 72nd Annual School Safety Patrol Rally held at the Alamodome. He also received a very special surprise. In speaking to the crowd of over 3,000 enthusiastic grade school safety patrol students, parents, and teachers, at what is considered to be the largest rally of it's kind in the nation, Mr. Miller told of attending the annual event himself, as a young student at San Antonio's Kate Schenk Elementary. Miller stressed the importance of excelling in school, helping others, and giving back. He remembered being an 8th grader and proudly wearing his shiny blue and silver school safety patrol captain's badge on a spotless white shoulder-waist belt which he once set in a pot of boiling soapy water, only to go outside to play and forget, while the belt and badge burned to a crisp.

  2. Little did he know that one day he and his family would play a role in saving an all-important program dedicated to insuring the safety of students throughout the Alamo City. In 1991, when the Safety Patrol program was in jeopardy of losing countless Mama Patrol (now called the Adult Safety Patrol) members, due to city budget cuts, Balous and the Bill Miller Family generously donated $300,000 and literally rescued the program. He was given the San Antonio Police Department Community Service Award and was then surprised by a group of students from Kate Schenk Elementary who presented him with a new belt and captain's badge. Event coordinator, SAPD Officer Ruben Ruiz, said, "Parents and students in San Antonio will be eternally grateful to the Bill Miller Family for their tremendous generosity." The rally was MC'd by KSAT-TV anchor, Steve Spriester and also featured performances by the US Air Force band, "Top Flight" and motivational speaker, Sonny Melendrez. http://www.billmillerbbq.com Source: http://www.1888pressrelease.com/balous-miller-bill-miller-family-honored-at-san-antonio-po-pr-398059.html
