  1. PowerPoint Presentations

  2. Plan ahead • write down what exactly you are going to write on each slide

  3. Structure • first slide: • title of your presentation • author(s) • year • topic slides • sources - slide • end - slide

  4. Common mistake • People tend to put every word they are going to say on their PowerPoint slides. Although this eliminates the need to memorise your talk, all in all this makes your slides crowded, wordy, and boring. You will lose your audience's attention before you even reach the bottom of your slide.

  5. Avoid long sentences • 6 words per line • 4-6 lines per slide

  6. Be Seen • Make sure your text is big enough • This is 28 point Arial • Anything below 24 points is too small (this is 18 point)

  7. Be Clear • Use a sans-serif font (Arial, Verdana)‏ • Serif fonts are harder to read on-screen • Italics are harder to read on-screen • Use bold or colour for emphasis • DO NOT WRITE EVERYTHING IN CAPITAL LETTERS

  8. Check spelling! • Many people do not run spell check before showing their presentation - BIG MISTAK!!!

  9. Images • Use images to communicate…

  10. …not to decorate!
