  2. Introduction • History of Animation • What is Animation • Animating with Alice • Animating with Maya • My Product (A New World)

  3. What is Animation? • Illusion of movement using one frame at a time. • Originally done on chalkboards. • Now done on paper or computer.

  4. History of Traditional Animation • Two of the traditional masters of animation were Tex Avery and Chuck Jones. • Tex Avery – Unique style of exaggerating animation. He worked for Warner Bros., MGM, and Lantz. • Chuck Jones – Best known for using characterization. Worked for Warner Bros. and MGM.

  5. History of Computer Animation • Started in the late 1970’s, but became well known in the mid-1980’s. • New computers came out that gave the ability to do polygon animation, which increase the quality of animations. • In 1986, Pixar was founded by John Lassenter and Steve Jobs. In 1995, the first fully computer animated feature film, Toy Story, was released.

  6. Animating with Alice • Made for students that are interested in video games and animation. • This program is named after a character in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass. • Allows you to create fictional worlds. • This program is mainly used with a mouse, not the keyboard to program.

  7. Animation with Maya • Developed by Alias Software. • Is the gold standard in the animation industry. • Is very expensive. • Is very difficult to learn. It can take months or years to learn.

  8. My Product • For my senior product, I created a fictitious world using Alice. • My world includes two parts. • Part one is a tortoise getting a cookie. • Part 2 features penguins skating on ice and also includes several interactive features like an igloo with a secret scene.

  9. Conclusion • Animations has been done for over a hundred years. • Programs like Alice and Maya have helped students to learn computer animation. • It is my hope that this project will put me one step closer to a future career in animation.
