PFDC Thrust Areas 2005-06 - Trials • The PFDCs have been conducting experimental trials on important crops of the state with plasticulture applications to ascertain results and fine tune the technologies for field application. • PFDCs give their recommendations based on the trials undertaken by them.   8. PFDC Thrust Areas 2005-06 Demonstration • Seeing is believing. The PFDCs demonstrate precision farming and plasticulture applications live on plants, round the year in research farms as well as in the farmers fields. Total – 204 - Demonstrations

PFDC Thrust Areas 2005-06 - Training • The PFDCs conduct awareness and training programmes on plasticulture applications for the benefit of farmers, departmental officers, system suppliers, NGOs etc. • Training programmes speed up the adoption by creating more awareness. PFDC Thrust Areas 2005-06 – Technology Display Center • One stop technology display center and information centre, which houses products and information on precision farming & plasticulture technologies under one roof. • The center has literatures, photographs, models, charts, products like green house models, shade nets, drip, sprinkler etc. • Strong Industry Participation on product availability.

  13. PFDC Thrust Areas 2005-06 – Handouts & Publications • Important information such as package of practices, success stories, cost benefit of Plasticulture applications, training manuals etc. are prepared for all the important crops and applications of the state and circulated to the farmers.

  15. PFDC Thrust Areas – Mass Media • PFDCs take part in the Radio or TV talks to spread the usage of plasticulture applications through mass media. • PFDCs participate in Radio/Television talks. During FY 2005-06, 76 such talks were organized by the PFDCs 26 – Radio Talks & 50 - T.V. Shows

PFDC – Bangalore, Karnataka • Experimental trials – 5 trials using greenhouse, net house, mulching and drip on cucumber, cauliflower, carnation and bird of paradise.  • Awareness and training programmes – 34 nos. for farmers. officers and others.  • Technology demonstration – 15 nos. in research as well as in farmers fields.  • Literatures – package of practices for precision farming in vegetable crops, flower crops and application specific folders.  • Radio and TV talks.  • Survey of farmers in select districts.  • Display center – an information repository and display center has been developed in the PFDC. Its further updation will be taken up during the year. Budgetary support asked for – Rs 62.3 lakhs.

PFDC – IARI, New Delhi • Experimental trials - 11 nos. comprising of testing of modified design of energy conserving greenhouse, comparative study of different shading nets, performance evaluation of different filters, comparative study of different design of greenhouses through simulation and modeling.  • Besides, the PFDC would be undertaking crop specific experiments using greenhouse, fertigation, shadenet, drip, GIS on potato, okra and garlic. • Awareness and training programmes – 26 nos. for farmer, officers and others in places around Delhi like Ghaziabad, Gurgaon etc.   • Technology demonstration - 15 nos. in research farms as well as in the farmers fields. Application specific folders on mulching, greenhouses, low tunnel, micro sprinkler etc.  • Survey of farmers is select areas around Delhi. • Renovation and & face uplifting of display center. Budgetary support asked for – Rs 68.69 lakhs.

  36. PFDC – Bikaner, Rajasthan • Experimental trials – 5 nos. on development of precision Farming techniques for kinnow, sweet orange, fenugreek, and cumin. Besides, evaluation of tape drip irrigation and sub surface drainage by porous pipe will be undertaken.  • Awareness and training – 32 nos. – 27 for farmers, 3 for officers and 2 Seminars.   • Technology demonstration – 9 nos. in research farms with Drip, mulching and greenhouse cultivation on Ber, pomegranate, aonla, Beal, lime, kinnow, sweet orange, fruit and vegetables. 6 demonstrations in farmers fields using various plasticulture applications.  Cont……..

PFDC – Navsari, Gujrat • Experimental trials – 6 nos. with greenhouse and drip on tomato, Lilly and capsicum.  • Awareness & training programmes – 20 nos. farmers and 2 for officers.  • Technology demonstration – 8 nos. in research farms as well as in farmers fields – using drip with fertigation, mulching and greenhouses on Banana, Sugarcane, Brinjal, vegetable nursery raising, alternative of vegetable crops and surface drainage technology.  • Literatures – crop specific folders on Rose, Castor, Okra, Potato, Cotton and application specific on green house and drainage technologies. • Survey of farmers of few selected districts. • Display centre is being developed. PFDC – Rahuri, Maharashtra • Experimental trials – 4 nos. with drip and polyhouse on Banana, pomegranate, gerbera and carnation.  • Awareness and training programme – 27 nos. for farmers and officers.  • Technology demonstration – 4 nos. demonstrations in research farms with drip irrigation and mulching on Banana and pomegranate. 4 nos. demonstrations in farmers fields.  • Literatures – crop specific folders on gerbera, carnation, Banana, pomegranate and capsicum. • Survey of farmers in select districts. • Display centre will be developed in the current year. Budgetary support asked for – Rs 40.53 lakhs.

PFDC – Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh • Experimental trials – 5 nos. using greenhouse, fertigation, drip, and mulching in Mango and Guava.  • Awareness & training programmes – 40 nos. for farmers, officers and others.  • Technology demonstration – 14 nos. is research farms as well as in farmers fields.  • Radio & TV talks  • Survey of farmers in select districts will be undertaken to ascertain drip irrigation status. • Literatures – package of practices for various crops   • Information repository & display center has been established. It will be refurbished and strengthened further with more information. Budgetary support asked for – Rs 40.55 lakhs.

PFDC – Raipur, Chattisgarh • Experimental trials – 4 nos. using greenhouse in Anthurium cultivation, drip, fertigation in potato, drip in cucumber and fertigation in chilli. • Awareness and training programmes – 40 nos. for farmers, officers and others.  • Technology demonstration – 4 nos. is research farms, as well as in the farmers fields.  • Literatures – package of practices for mango, cashew, litchi, marigold and garlic.  • Radio & TV talks.  • Survey of farmer is select districts to get feedback on drip irrigation.  • Information repository & display center is being set up in the PFDC. Budgetary support asked for – Rs 33.75 lakhs.

  49. PFDC – Pantnagar, Uttranchal • Experimental trials – 7 numbers using green-house for round the year cultivation and development of precision farming techniques for Capsicum, Bitter gourd, Mango and Litchi.  • Awareness and training programmes – 24 numbers for farmers, officers and others.  • Technology demonstration – 7 nos. in the research farms as well as in farmers fields.  • Literatures – crop specific folders on Mango & potato. Application specific folders on micro irrigation, mulching and poly-house cultivation. •  Radio & TV talks   • Information repository and display center – already exist. However it will be developed further. Budgetary support asked for – Rs 31.00 lakhs.

  50. Facilities asked for by PFDCs • Additional manpower for increased number of activities such as training programmes and other activities. • Multi-media facilities like laptop computer, LCD projector, potable wall mounted Screen, digital camera for conducting awareness and training programmer at district level. • Equipment for mini plastic testing center.
