  1. I Love God and Jesus, and I’m a Good Person, ISN’T THAT GOOD ENOUGH? Questions that keep coming up

  2. Are You Really Good Enough? And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. (Ephesians 2:1-3 ESV) Paul, Ephesians, “all” were dead in sin

  3. Are You Really Good Enough? as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” (Romans 3:10-12 ESV) None righteous, not even one

  4. Are You Really Good Enough? For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. (Romans 7:18-19 ESV) So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. (Romans 7:21-23 ESV) Even the best of us wrestle with sin

  5. Are You Really Good Enough? …for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23 ESV) ALL have sinned

  6. Are We Saved By Our Goodness? But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— (Ephesians 2:4-5 ESV) Saved by grace… with Christ

  7. Are We Saved By Our Goodness? In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,(Ephesians 1:7 ESV) Forgiven by blood… in Christ knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. (1 Peter 1:18-19 ESV)

  8. Are We Saved By Our Goodness? But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? (James 2:18-20 ESV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, (Ephesians 1:3 ESV) IN CHRIST… is where all the blessings are

  9. Do We Really Love? You are my friends if you do what I command you. (John 15:14 ESV) You are my friends if you do what I command you. (John 15:14 ESV) For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. (1 John 5:3 ESV)

  10. Do We Really Love? And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: (1 John 2:3-5 ESV) To NOT keep the commandments is to NOT know God

  11. Do We Really Love? • Hebrews 10:24-25- Don’t have to go… • 1 Cor. 11:23-25- Don’t have to remember… • Mark 16:16- Don’t have to be baptized • Ephesians 3:20-21- Don’t have to fellowship…

  12. There is Still Hope Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, (1 Peter 1:22 ESV) And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, (Hebrews 5:9 ESV) OBEDIENCE can lead us to be saved.

  13. What Obedience Can Save Us? • John 8:24- belief? Saul wasn’t! • Luke 13:3- repentance? Saul wasn’t! • Mt. 10:32- confession? Mt. 7:21 people weren’t! • Mark 16:16- baptism? Act 22:15-washed sin
