  2. For most of us, it’s just a chair, but subconcisously, we love this piece of furniture. Happiness for many of us is having a revolving office chair, for some of us it’s just relaxing for long time on a beach. But when it comes to an Adirondack chair then you can’t miss anything. Adirondack chair is a symbol of cottage country, long summer days on beach and lakeshores and watching the sunset with a loved one. Adirondack chair is poetry and here are few facts about this chair that you might want to know.

  3. The difficult name • Many of us today don’t know the name but if we see this kind of chair then we recognize it very easily. It’s the beauty and simplicity of Adirondack chair that simply mesmerizes you. Slats of wood form a back rest while similarly the basic wooden planks serve as wide, unpretentious arm rests. And the best part is the short legs that rest just a few inches off the ground. Adirondack Chairs are something that can be easily spotted in back yards, on patios, balconies and porches throughout North America. These chairs are classic examples of sturdy outdoor furniture.

  4. The Various Names • Adirondack chairs gets their name from the Adirondack Mountain ranges in upstate New York. There are quite a few legends associated with it. One legend says that this iconic chair got its name because guests of a convalescent home for tuberculosis patients in the Adirondack Mountains enjoyed sitting in the chair to take in the therapeutic fresh mountain air. Well these chair do go by other names too like the Westport plank chair, this is because this design was actually patented in Westpost, New York. And when we speak of Canada, Canadians love to call this piece of furniture as the Muskoka chair. Muskoka chair is named after the beloved Muskoka cottage country that many Ontarians flock to every summer. However, French-Canadians have a different name for it known as the Laurentian chair (chaise des Laurentides), named after a region in Quebec. So as you can see, this special chair comes with many different names.

  5. The Man behind the chair It all started in 1903, when a man named Thomas Lee was vacationing with his loved ones in Westport, New York. Mr. Lee was on a mission to construct the perfect outdoor chair, which would allow him to take in the sights of Lake Champlain, in all its glory. He built the prototype of the Adirondack chair that we know today. Nothing was overlooked and he provided very special attention to detail. The seat was a constructed slant making it extremely compatible with the sloped Westport terrain. Even if one perches the chair on the side of a mountain, the slant allows access to look straight on to the horizon. These are just a mere three factors on one of the best chairs ever to be designed. But, there are many amazing things one could find out if they decide to explore more information on Adirondack chairs.
