  5. A communication style that leaves the responder with hurt feelings or fearful. • Aggressive communication leads to further problems. BODY LANGUAGE— What does this person sound like? Aggressive

  6. A communication style that isn’t convincing to others because the speaker sounds nervous or weak. BODY LANGUAGE— What does this person sound like? Passive

Passive • Body Language? • Shaky, shy, fidgety, nervous, NO EYE CONTACT • Sounds like? • Shaky voice, quiet • Assertive • Body Language? • Straight face, serious, nice, EYE CONTACT • Sounds Like? • Steady, normal volume, clear, fluent, • Aggressive • Body Language? • Mad, look through a person, angry • Sounds Like? • YELLING, SCREAM, Strong voice Passive, Assertive & Aggressive

Look at the speaker • Listen without interrupting • Do not offer advice or give suggestions unless asked • Ask questions to find out more • Show that you understand by nodding, making eye contact, and using facial expressions • Repeat what you have heard in your own words (paraphrase) HOW TO BE A GOOD LISTENER

Passive aggressive people can be a frustrating bunch. • The passive-aggressor expresses his anger in a passive way, by procrastinating, forgetting, resisting responsibility and finding fault with others. Rather than assertively expressing his own needs and wishes, he develops resentment towards others for not meeting those needs • This behavior quietly shouts: “You bug me and I’m going to punish you for thinking counter to me.” • They have a negative attitude towards many situations in life and towards other people. • H.I.
