  3. Concept Questions • How can a person reach his or her goal? • What can you do if you meet problems along the way?

  4. The Pact How do you think the young men were able to reach their goal? What is this book about? When did they set the goal for themselves? What do you think might be some Problems Sam, George, and Rameck Faced on their way to their goal?

  5. Problem Solving Steps • Problem: What is the problem? • Feelings: How do I feel about the problem? How do others feel about the problem? Or, how might others feel about the problem? • Pros and Cons: What are the pros and cons of each solution? Which solution is the best choice? • Try It: How can I/we try the solution? • Evaluate it: Did the solution work? It it did not work, what else can I/we try?

  6. Questions to Consider • Do you think achieving a goal is always easy? • What has Sam been telling himself about his experiences during medical school? • What can Sam do to pass the exam?

  7. Setting Goals • What is the long-term goal of a Major League baseball team? • What is the short-term goal of one of these teams? • What tasks are needed to reach the short-term goal?
