  1. How Well Do You Know Pride? Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer, IA+

  2. The riots that started it all In 1969, a police raid on a gay bar called the Stonewall Inn prompted demonstrations by members of the LGBT community. A year later, the first Pride parade was held in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots.

  3. Pride wasn't just "Pride" • Pride as we know it was initially called the Gay Liberation March, followed by the Gay Freedom March. In the 80s, Gay Pride was coined and was eventually shortened to Pride.

  4. All the colors of the rainbow • The rainbow flag, the symbol of Pride, made its debut in the San Francisco Pride Parade of 1978. Gilbert Baker designed it as a unifying emblem for gays everywhere.

  5. Who's Harvey? • Harvey Milk was the first openly gay politician in California. As a good friend of Gilbert Baker, he asked him to create a symbol for LGBT awareness. Thus, the rainbow flag was born.

  6. More than 6 • The Pride flag we know and love today has 6 colors, but the original flag had 8. The two colors missing are hot pink and turquoise--representing sexuality, magic, and art.

  7. Transgender Pride • There's a Transgender Pride flag too. It features blue, pink, and white stripes: blue for the traditional "masculine" color, pink for the conventional "feminine" color, and white for a neutral or "transition" color.

  8. Proud for Pride • The largest Pride event in the world was held in 2006 in Sao Paolo, Brazil. An estimated 2.5 million people attended the parade!
