Diamond Head is a volcanic crater ◦ One of the most famous landmarks in Honolulu county is Diamond Head, a volcanic crater and tuff cone. A native Hawaiian heiau once stood on the summit, dedicated to the god of war, and the volcanic calcite crystals on Diamond Head were mistaken for diamonds by British sailors. The crater has two distinct levels: the top is a 760-foot cliff, and the bottom is a 190-acre interior. At the top of the hole, you can admire the rim and the surrounding areas of Oahu.
