What is the format of the exam?
  • The CPRP Exam is offered in two formats
    • A traditional paper/pencil test form
    • A computer-based test form
  • There are 150 questions (items) on the exam
  • All questions are in the form of multiple-choice questions
  • Only one answer per question is correct
  • Candidates are to select the single best

answer out of the possible answers

  • Candidates are given 3 hours to complete the exam
  • All test items are scored correct or incorrect
  • During the 3 hour period candidates may go back to review and complete unanswered items on the exam
    • An unanswered item is scored as incorrect
How are exam items developed?

Questions are derived from the Psychiatric Rehabilitation

Role Delineation Study

  • The study identified performance domains, tasks, and the knowledge and skills necessary for one to be successful in the practice of psychiatric rehabilitation
  • From this, the exam blueprint was developed
  • Content experts work directly with psychometric professionals to develop statistically valid test items relevant to the findings of the Role Delineation Study
    • All test items are supported by references to published PsyR literature
    • The exam has been field tested for validity & reliability
Are all exam items equal?

Some questions have a higher difficulty level, and

therefore have more weight on the exam.

  • The exam is broken into the 7 practice domains. Each domain having a different number of items and therefore a different weight on the exam.
    • 1. Interpersonal Competencies
    • 2. Professional Role Competencies
    • 3. Community Integration
    • 4. Assessment, Planning & Outcomes
    • 5. Interventions for Goal Achievement
    • 6. Systems Competencies
    • 7. Diversity & Cultural Competency
I passed the test: Now what?
  • All successful candidates receive a formal certificate and identification card indicating their status as a CPRP
  • The CPRP is valid for a 3 year period
  • Each year, CPRPs pay a small renewal or maintenance fee to keep their credential current
  • Every 3rd year, CPRPs must document and submit a required number of continuing education and training hours in PsyR
What happens if I do not pass the exam?
  • You will be provided with a detailed score report of your performance on the exam
  • This will outline your performance in each of the seven practice domains.
  • You can re-test
  • There is no limit to the number of times a candidate can attempt the exam*
How do I arrange to re-test?
