  • Apprenticeships seen by the Government as key in supporting future skill and economic recovery
  • In health sector seen as key in relation to career level 1-4 staff development and workforce change
  • Over 100 health sector job roles match over 80 different apprenticeship frameworks
  • During 2009/20 over 8,000 new apprenticeship starts in the NHS (England)
  • Approx 50% of the above were clinical, and existing mature staff (over the age of 25)

  • Certificate in Healthcare Support Services
  • Certificate in Health Informatics (not Wales)
  • Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support
  • Diploma in Emergency Care Assistance
  • Diploma in Optical Retailing Skills
  • NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) (Sept 2010)
  • All of the above will be supported by the Certificate in Working in the Health Sector QCF qualification as the ‘knowledge’ component of the Framework (with the exception of Pharmacy which will have Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF)
  • Functional / Key Skills/ Essential Skills Wales will be at level 1
