  19. The Powers That Be: Political • Rulers lord power over subjects • Power is used to dominate others • Violence is normal means of controlling dissent • Exploitative economic practices lead to a few wealthy elites and a vast majority in extreme poverty Jesus is a threat!

  20. Conflict And The Cross • Jesus’ conflicts with the powers that be eventually led to the cross • Jesus was executed by the Romans (political authorities) at the behest of the Sanhedrin (religious authorities) on a charge of blasphemy, with the approval of the people
