    1. MODULE 26: THEORIES & PHYSIOLOGY OF EMOTION IDENTIFY 3 COMPONENTS OF EMOTION ILLUSTRATE THE JAMES-LANGE, CANNON-BARD AND SCHACTER’S THEORIES OF EMOTION DESCRIBE PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES THAT OCCUR DURING EMOTIONAL AROUSAL AND DISCUSS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AROUSAL AND PERFORMANCE

    2. MODULE 2 (CONT.) DESCRIBE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHYSIOLOGICAL STATES AND SPECIFIC EMOTIONS DISCSUSS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE POLYGRAPH IN DETECTING LIES

    3. EMOTIONS… THINK OF A TIME IN THE RECENT PAST IN WHICH YOU EXPERIENCED A STRONG EMOTION. DESCRIBE THE (1)CIRCUMSTANCES, (2)YOUR INTERNAL (PHYSIOLOGICAL) STATE, (3) BEHAVIORS THAT INDICATED YOUR EMOTIONALITY, AND (4)YOUR CONSCIOUS EXPERIENCE (THE THINKING THAT RELATED TO YOUR STATE) SHARE IN DIADS

    4. EMOTIONS ARE A MIX OF… PHYSIOLGICAL ACTIVITATION EXPRESSIVE BEHAVIOR CONSCIOUS EXPERIENCE

    5. THEORIES OF EMOTION WHERE DO EMOTIONS COME FROM? WHAT ARE THEY MADE OF? DOES PHYSIOLOGICAL AROUSAL PRECEDE OR FOLLOW AN EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE?

    6. THE JAMES-LANGE THEORY OUR EXPERIENCE OF EMOTION IS OUR AWARENESS OF OUR PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSES TO AN EMOTION-AROUSING STIMULI “WE FEEL SORRY BECAUSE WE CRY, ANGRY BECAUSE WE STRIKE, AFRAID BECAUSE WE TREMBLE”

    7. THE CANNON-BARD THEORY AN EMOTION-AROUSING STIMULUS SIMULTANEOUSLY TRIGGERS (1) PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSES AND (2) THE SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE OF EMOTION MOST RESEARCHERS AGREE THAT OUR EXPERIECED EMOTIONS ALSO INVOLVE CONGNITIONS

    8. SCHACTER’S TWO-FACTOR THEORY OF EMOTION MOST PSYCHOLOGISTS BELIEVE THAT OUR COGNITIONS (PERCEPTION, MEMORIES, INTERPRETATIONS) ARE AN ESSENTIAL INGREDIENT OF EMOTIONS SCHACTER – EMOTIONS HAVE TWO INGREDIENTS: PHYSICAL AROUSAL AND A COGNITIVE LABEL AN EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRES A CONSCIOUS INTERPRETATION

    9. SCHACTER’S THEORY (CONT.) “SPILLOVER EFFECT” – A STIRRED UP STATE CAN EXPERIENCED AS ONE EMOTION OR ANOTHER, DEPENDING ON HOW WE INTERPRET AND LABEL IT AROUSAL CAN INTENSIFY EMOTIONS
