  1. Camp Kaitawa

  2. Introduction It was a warm day and the Year 5`s were going on an extraordinary week ahead!!!! Unexpected weather to come, water rushing as it pumped through the Surge Chamber, a long, long walk with a 800-1000 year old tree and a walk to the falls and through muddy caves. What a tiring week it was.

  3. Monday Finally we got to camp. We unpacked all the bags from the trailer and chose were we were going to sleep. We got put into groups and set off for our first walk of camp. We went past the Surge Chamber and the Green Lake.

  4. Monday After that we went up long, long pipeline and came down. When we got back to camp we played in our dorms. Then we had dinner. I ate lots of dinner and ice cream. About 8:00pm Richard from DOC talked to us about the environment. Then we had supper and went to bed. Finally the first day was over.

  5. Tuesday In the morning we got up at about 7:30am. We had cooked breakfast. After that we drove to the Ngamoko walk. We walked to a Rata tree. The Rata tree was 800-1000 YEARS OLD!!! All the groups had a photo.

  6. Tuesday We had morning tea and we were off again. We got lots of barley sugars, mars bars and lollies. All of us got to1050m above sea level. It took us 7 hours. Mrs Johnson told us to stretch our muscles. We had to have a shower. We only got 2 minutes in a shower or we will get sprayed with water. We had dinner and went to bed. The Second day was over.

  7. Wednesday In the morning we had breakfast, packed our day packs, did our chores, wrote prayers and walked to Lake Waikareiti. After that we visited the Falls and Weta homes and went back up to camp and played in our dorm. Mrs Johnson told everyone to put our running shoes on.

  8. Wednesday We were going to do the obstacle course in teams of five. It took us 5 minutes and 34 seconds. We had a shower, then dinner. Later on we had a Quiz and bed! The third day was over.

  9. Thursday We got up around 7:30am and had cooked breakfast. After that we packed a head lamp, raincoat and shoes. When we got there we put our raincoats on and went in lots of caves and mud. When we finished we went to the park, had lunch and played rugby.

  10. Thursday The girls made a Human Pyramid. When we got back to camp we walked to the cookout spot and was told some rules around the fire. After we cooked our dish we ate it. For dessert we got marshmallows and chocolate. It was all in tinfoil. We ate heaps. The fourth day was over!!

  11. Friday It was the last day of camp and we all had to pack up and go down to the lake and play some games. We went back up and got sorted into cars. Then we went to Wairoa, had lunch and left to go back to Napier. Camp Kaitawa was really FANTASTIC!!! By Sam
