SLÁN 2007 Methods • Randomly selected participants • Interviews at home • Face-to-face interview (35 mins approx) + self-completed food questionnaire (10 mins approx.) • Irish version available • Shortened translated self-completion questionnaire for non-English speakers [Russian, Polish, Lithuanian and Chinese] • Interviews - Nov 2006 to Oct 2007

SLÁN 2007 Core Themes I • General health - self-rated health, health-service use, screening • Mental health - mental-health index, depression & anxiety screening, self-harm, stigma • Physical activity - activities in the last week, barriers and intentions • Diet & nutrition - foods eaten, eating patterns, food poverty • Smoking - intentions to quit, advice, home smoking ‘rules

Alcohol use: assessment • Risky alcohol use: 6+ drinks on one occasion • Excessive alcohol use: – units consumed per week (threshold >14 for women/>21 for men) • Alcohol screening tool - AUDIT-C (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test Consumption) - 3-item alcohol screen • Question on interpersonal impact of alcohol use (work, relationships)
