  2. Review of Implementation of MDMS in Andhra Pradesh (Primary + Upper Primary)(1.4.2013 to 31.12.2013) Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India

Issues • Meals are served through centralized kitchen in the schools in rural areas in Medak district where Kitchen sheds are available or there is enough space for construction of kitchen-cum-stores. • Poor rate of construction of kitchen-cum-stores (only 16% constructed). Construction work is yet to start for 54055 kitchens. • Proposal for replacement of kitchen devices not submitted. • No proposal for release of grants for LPG cylinders. • Out of a sample of 990 children, 56% were malnourished. • Huge mismatch in data on utilisation of cooking cost in AWP&B vis-à-vis MIS. • Health check-up of only 66% of enrolled children. • Non display of MDM logo and entitlements.

  4. Best Practices • Green Channel Scheme for release of funds. • Introduction of social audit on pilot basis in 2 districts. • Coverage of children of class IX and X under mid day meal from State resources. • Creation of monitoring cell for regular review of scheme.
