  2. Vertebrate • Vertebrates are animals with backbones birds are vertebrates.

  3. Habitat • They live in nest and they build them in trees and mountains they also sometimes build them on the ground. • You can find birds any where in the world from the arctic to the hot deserts

  4. Food • Birds often eat fish, bugs , worms, berries, and small rodents. • But for their diet they eat berries or bugs.

  5. Warm-Blooded • To be warm-blooded it means to be able to control their body temperature birds are warm blooded.

  6. Life Cycle • Birds lay eggs. • Then those eggs hatch their young are called baby birds. • Those baby birds soon grow feathers then leave their nest. • The baby birds grow into adults. • Then the birds find mates and lay their own eggs.

  7. How They Breathe • They breathe through lungs their entire life.

  8. Body Covering • Birds are the only animals with feathers the feathers keep them warm. • They also attract mates with their bright feathers.

  9. Reproduce • Birds reproduce with eggs. • They take care of their young after they are born.

  10. Special Body Parts • Tail feathers help the bird steer and stop. • Primary feathers are for moving forward when flying. • Hollow bones make birds be light weighted, so they can fly. • Wings let birds fly.

  11. Special Body Parts Continued • Beaks help birds eat and communicate. • Feathers keep birds warm and attract mates.

  12. Other Interesting Facts • Male birds sing to attract female birds. • The birds feathers weigh more than their skeleton. • A bird is a animal that migrates. • Birds don’t fight much they prefer to fly away but they sometimes fight.

  13. Migrating • Some birds stay in flocks in winter and break up in spring. • Birds migrate from city to city or continent to continent. • They migrate to get food.

  14. Species • Here are a few species of birds blue jay, toucan, cardinal, plover, owl, magpie.
