  3. Who are the stakeholders? • Business owners • Awareness of prohibition on outdoor advertising • Landowners on or around property • Chambers of Commerce • Business Developers

  4. Public Issues Education Stakeholders – local government • Local elected officials • State legislators • Federal representatives • Boards of Education members

  5. Public Issues Education Do you need a work committee? • Obtain letters of support • Take pictures of property • Write application and, if approved, the subsequent grant proposal • Coordinate public hearings and meetings with local government

  6. Is the project sustainable? • Will the project require ongoing capital? • Will there be additional costs as the project moves forward? • Will there be staffing expenses for the project?

  7. Where do you submit application? • Through a unit of local government • Assuring audited expenditures • Through a private non-profit agency • Requiring a fiscal agent • Through a county historical society • Necessitating recordkeeping requirements

  8. How do you get community support? • Work with the media • Communicate your vision to community leaders • Anticipate the “naysayers” • Prepare effective PR tools
