  3. Objectives By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: • Define weather • Differentiate cloud types • Explain uses of weather instruments • Explain the water cycle and its importance to weather • Use scientific reasoning to explain natural phenomena

  4. WV CSOs SC.O.5.2.19 Identify and describe natural landforms and explain how they change and impact weather and climate. SC.O.5.2.20 Use a variety of instruments and sources to collect and display weather data to describe weather patterns. SC.O.5.2.21 Compare and explain the different rates of weathering, erosion and deposition on various materials. RLA.O.5.1.03 Use denotation to understand meaning. RLA.O.5.1.06 Determine main ideas and locate supporting details in literary passages and informational texts.   6. Day 1 • Introduce Weather Unit and discuss objectives • First Lesson: Cloud Types • Create a KWL chart • Take PDA’s outside to draw clouds in sky on Graffiti 2 • Beam student drawing to teacher • Discuss what was seen • Introduce different cloud types • Homework: Complete KWL chart

  7. Day 2 • Go to computer lab to continue learning cloud types • Visit website http://eo.ucar.edu/webweather/cloud3.html • Search different cloud types • Open Kidspiration • Students are to create a web of three different cloud types • Grade according to rubric • Homework: Treasure Hunt

  8. Day 3 • Second Lesson: Weather Instruments • Split into three groups • Each group will create one of the following: barometer, anemometer, thermometer • Each group watch movie made on moviemaker for directions on how to make their instrument • Present final products to class, discussing the significance of each

  9. Day 4 • Third Lesson: The Water Cycle • Discuss the water cycle • Pass out worksheet • Discuss forms of precipitation • Homework: Draw a picture of one form of precipitation

  10. Day 5 • Fourth Lesson: Review and Reinforcement • Split into teams • Play PowerPoint game as a class • Questions/Comments on previous lessons • Begin making weather reports • Homework: Finish weather reports

  11. Day 6 • Tape individual weather reports with video camera • When not being taped, complete review worksheet • If finished early, play review game with partner • Final review
