  4. Dispensational Comparison – why? Biblical Theology

  5. Some Questions about Dispensations? • What is this term ‘Dispensation’? • How do you define it? • How many Dispensations are there? • Why did God make Dispensations?

  6. An ‘Administration’ • Ephesians 1:9-10: “He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him, with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth.” • Ephesians 3:9: “and to bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God who created all things; so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.” • “A biblical time period wherein God makes changes to the ethical demands He puts on saved people though salvation is always by grace through faith.”

  15. Transition = The Cross

  16. The Cross works two ways • Isaiah 6:10: “Render the hearts of this people insensitive, their ears dull, and their eyes dim, otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and return and be healed.” -------------------- • Jeremiah 31:37: “Thus says the Lord, ‘If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out below, then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done,’ declares the Lord.”

  17. The Old Testament Covenants! • Jeremiah 31:31-34: • Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, • 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. • 33 “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. • 34 “They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

  18. Dispensational Shift Law Grace • Old Testament • Hebrew • Passover • Baptism not mentioned • Nations come to Israel • Rest on Saturday • Worship @ the Temple • Human Priesthood • Repeated animals • Gathered to the earth • “Father” • Temple Destroyed 70AD • New Testament • Greek • Communion • Baptism • Great Commission • Worship on Sunday • Worship in the Spirit • Heavenly Priesthood • Blood once shed • Go straight to heaven • “Daddy” • 2 Mosques

  19. You Are a Dispensationalist Lewis Sperry Chafer: “Any person is a dispensationalist who trusts the blood of Christ rather than bringing an animal sacrifice” and “who observes the first day of the week rather than the seventh.”

  20. What Grace! Lewis Sperry Chafer: “There was that in God which no created being had ever seen. They had seen His glory, His majesty, His wisdom and His power; but no angel or man had ever seen His grace. Other attributes might be subject to a variety of demonstrations; but the manifestation of grace is restricted to what God may do for hose among men who, in spite of the fact ta hey deserve His judgments, are objects of His grace .”

  21. Dispensational Shift Israel - Political Church - Spiritual • Galatians 3:28: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” -------------------- • Colossians 3:11: “a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.”

  22. 7 Dispensations Transition

  23. Back to Israel! • Romans 11:11-12. • Romans 25-26. • Daniel 9:24-27. • Revelation 7:4-8. • Matthew 4:17; 6:9-10; 19:28. • Acts 1:6-7.

  24. A Break – A Parenthesis • Revelations 3:22, 22:16: “What the Spirit says to the church . . . . . . . I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to these things for the Churches.” • Psalm 118:22: “The Stone which the builders refused – is become the Cornerstone.” • Isaiah 9:6: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given – and the government shall be upon His shoulder.” • Isaiah 53:10-11: “It pleased the LORD to bruise Him – He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hands.” • Luke 1:31-32: “You shalt conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son and shall call His Name Jesus – He shall be great, and shall be called the Son f the Highest; and the LORD God shall give unto Him the throne of His father, David.”

  25. The Church Distinct from Israel • Mystery: • “The mystery which has been kept secret for long ages past” Romans 16:25. • “the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested” Colossians 2:16. • Equality: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” • The Spirit for all: “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into One Body, whether Jews or Greeks, where slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of One Spirit” 1 Corinthians 12:13.

  26. 7 Dispensations Transition

  27. A Brief History

  28. 2 Converging Plans • The nation Israel • The Church Earthly Glory The Millennium Heavenly/Eternal Glory

  29. 2 Distinct Plans Lewis Sperry Chafer: “The Dispensationalist believes that throughout the ages God is pursuing two distinct purposes: one related to the earth with earthly people and earthly objectives involved which is Judaism; while the other is related to heaven with heavenly people and heavenly objectives involved, which is the Christianity . . . Over against this, the partial dispensationalist, though dimly observing a few obvious distinctions, bases his interpretation on the supposition that God is doing but one thing, namely, the general separation of the good from the bad . . . in spite of all the confusion this limited theory creates.”

  30. Galatians 6:16 “And those who will walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.”

  31. 2 Converging Plans • The nation Israel • Romans 4:13: “The promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law.” • Romans 8:21: “That the creation itself also will Be set free from is slaver to corruption into The freedom of the glory of the children of God.” • Revelation 21:1-2: “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heave and the first earth passed away . . . And I saw the holy city . . .coming down out of heaven . . . ‘the Tabernacle of God is among men . . .” • The Church The Millennium
