  1. Galatians 3:1-6 1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

  2. Galatians 3:1-6 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— 6 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

  3. Live Out the True Gospel

  4. Galatians 3:1-6 Live Out the True Gospel:Faith not Works

  5. Introduction 1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. John Stott states it well: “There is then, it is safe to say, no Christianity without the cross. If the cross is not central to our religion, ours is not the religion of Jesus.”

  6. Introduction Live Out the True Gospel: What is the Gospel? • Can you explain the Gospel in 10 words or less?

  7. Introduction

  8. Introduction Gospel: Relationship between God and man restored through His precious Son.

  9. Introduction Rhetorical Questions: A rhetorical question is asked just for the effects or to lay emphasis on some point discussed when no real answer is expected. A rhetorical question may have an obvious answer but the questioner asks rhetorical questions to lay emphasis on the point.

  10. Main Idea In living out the true gospel, one must trust the experience of knowing God through the Spirit

  11. Outline I.  by works of the law or believing what you heard?(vs 2,5)  II. by means of the Spirit or flesh? (v 3) III. by truly experiencing it or was it in vain? (v 4)

  12. Galatians 3:2,5 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith—

  13. I.  by works of the law or believing what you heard? Theology without experience is sterility, while experience without theology is emotionalism. -Scot McKnight

  14. Galatians 3:3 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

  15. II. by means of the Spirit or flesh? Begun by the Spirit? --------> continued by the Spirit so why do we try to do it through the flesh?

  16. Galatians 3:4 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?

  17. III. by truly experiencing it or was it in vain? Experience was so key in the Galatian understanding of the Gospel. We too are called to know the Gospel lived out in our lives Faith that isn’t just an abstract concept but concretely seen through the working of God’s Spirit and Christ’s blood in our lives
