  1. Science Station Temperature Changes on Earth

  2. Temperature Changes on Earth Welcome to today’s lesson. Today we will review the phases of the moon and discuss temperature on Earth.

  3. Review • Let’s review the phases of the moon by checking the worksheet that you completed in the last lesson’s activity. Get your worksheet out now. If for some reason you did not bring the worksheet, you will need to pay close attention so that you understand the correct answers.

  4. Thermometer • Have you ever heard of a thermometer? Do you know what a thermometer is? A thermometer is what we use to determine what the temperature is (how hot or how cold it is). You should learn in your math class exactly how to use a thermometer, but let’s look at one now!

  5. Thermometer Let’s take a look at this worksheet over the document camera! I will teach you how to use a thermometer, to read Fahrenheit and Celsius.

  6. Temperature • Temperatures can change from day to day. Temperatures also change throughout the day. Today is November 7th in Nevada (United States). Let’s see what today’s temperatures are.

  7. Temperature You saw by looking at today’s forecast (what todays weather will be), that it was hotter during the day and cooler at night.

  8. Temperature Do you think that temperatures are the same everywhere in the United States? Let’s look at temperatures all around the United States.

  9. High – 82 Low - 55 SUNNY High – 56 Low – 35 RAINEY High – 52 Low – 35 SUNNY High – 76 Low – 49 SUNNY

  10. Temperature • It is also important to understand that temperatures around the world are also different. In your 3rd Level Science course, you were taught that different countries experience different seasons at the same time. That means that when it is cool here, it might be hot where you live. Or the opposite!

  11. Seasons • Can you remember the 4 seasons? The four seasons are: • Fall/Autumn • Winter • Summer • Spring

  12. What is the Season What season is usually very cold? Oftentimes you might see snow on the ground during this time. Also, most of the plants and trees stop growing, go into hibernation, or even die. You will want to wear a heavy jacket, long pants, gloves, and boots!! What is the season?

  13. What is the Season? Winter!!

  14. What is the Season? • During this season the leaves start changing colors turning red, orange, and yellow. The leaves start falling off the trees and the animals start going into their homes. The weather starts getting a little cooler. You might wear a light jacket and light pants. • What season is it?

  15. What is the Season? Fall!!

  16. What is the Season? During this season the temperatures can be very hot! You might want to go to the beach or to the pool to cool off. You could wear shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. The flowers are all out and bloomed and the animals are no longer in their shelters. What season is it?

  17. What is the Season? Summer!!

  18. What is the Season? • During this season the flowers are just starting to grow and bloom. The weather is heating up and the animals are starting to come out!! You might wear light pants and a short-sleeved shirt. What season is it?

  19. What is the Season? Spring!!

  20. Seasons and Temperatures • You should have noticed throughout the explanation of the seasons that temperatures change throughout the year, as the seasons change. What season is it where you live? What is the temperature outside?

  21. Next Time… Great job today! You should have learned that temperatures are always changing. They change throughout the day. They will be different tomorrow, and they are much different now than they will be in 3 months from now because of seasons!
