  1. Science Station Review of Energy, Conservation, and Change Unit

  2. Review Welcome students! Today we will review the information in the 5th unit to prepare for our End of Course Assessment.

  3. Review Let’s begin reviewing, by completing a crossword puzzle with our vocabulary words. Get ready!

  4. What is Energy?

  5. What is Energy? Energy is something that has power or does work! Energy is all around us.

  6. The Different Forms of Energy • Light Energy • Sound Energy • Heat Energy • Magnetic Energy • Electrical Energy

  7. Forms of Energy • There is something in the solar system that creates a lot of energy!! Do you know what this object is? YES! THE SUN We call energy from the sun, solar energy!

  8. Forms of Energy • The sun produces a lot of light that shines down on us. We also use flashlights and light bulbs to see things around us. What energy allows us to see the things around us? • Light Energy

  9. Forms of Energy • Humans make this energy by using materials like batteries to create power and light. Do you know what type of energy this is? Yes! Electrical Energy

  10. Forms of Energy We are able to hear things going on around us because of vibrations sending waves of noise. What energy helps us to hear the things around us? Yes! Sound Energy

  11. Forms of Energy • When cold water is heated up, it can get really hot. The heat is working to warm up the water. What type of energy is this describing? Yes! Heat Energy

  12. Forms of Energy • Some metals can attract other metals using an energy that pulls or pushes objects away from it. Do you know what kind of energy is being used? Yes! Magnetic Energy

  13. Photosynthesis • Photosynthesis is the processes in which a plant uses light combined with other substances to create food for plants! What energy helps to allow the processes of photosynthesis to take place? • Light Energy

  14. Energy • What if there were two penguins and • one was hot • and one was cold?

  15. Energy • What could the two penguins do to help the cold penguin get warm? • If you said the warm penguin and the cold penguin could get really close to each other, you are right. The heat from the warm penguin would radiate (travel) to the cold penguin, helping to warm it up!

  16. Energy • How do we hear noises? • We hear noises because of the energy of sound! When two objects strike each other, vibrations are sent out in sound waves. These sound waves hit our ears and we can hear the sound! This is called sound energy.

  17. Energy • Which energy helps to power most of the things in homes and in stores? • If you said electrical energy you are correct. Electrical energy is made using an electrical circuit, like this one. • This closed circuit sends • an electric current from the • battery to the bulb, allowing • it to turn on (work)!

  18. Light • Draw arrows on the picture representing reflection and refraction!

  19. Light • Draw arrows on the picture representing reflection and refraction!

  20. Absorb Heat To absorb means to take in. If these two buckets were filled with the same amount of water and put outside in the heat to sit, which bucket’s water would reach a higher temperature and why?

  21. Absorb Heat • The water in the black bucket would get hotter because the color black absorbs more heat. The color white actually reflects a lot of the light hitting it, making it bounce away!

  22. Next Time • We reviewed all of the information learned in the fifth unit. You will need to study all of this information in order to do well on your End of Course Assessment. Study this information as we review the other units!
