  4. Reading the Graduation Requirement Report (Ignore these columns) What you need What’s in your current schedule What you’ve completed What’s left! (In Progress comes off Remain and goes to Complete once you pass the class.)

Reading the Graduation Requirement Report So for example, this student’s English progress is as follows: English 9 – needs 1.0, has 1.0, so is complete (note the “Status” column) English 10 – needs 1.0, has 1.0, so is complete English 11 – needs 1.0, has completed .50, so it’s “IN PROGRESS” for second semester… English 12 – needs 1.0, has 0, this student will sign up for English 12! New students: You may not have previous school’s credits reflected if your counselor has not received an official transcript from your last school.

  6. Did you know? All students must pass the Reading and Writing HSPE to graduate. Math: Students in the Class of 2013 and beyond must earn 3.0 credits through Algebra 2 to graduate. Students in the Class of 2013 and 2014 must pass either the Algebra or Geometry End-of-Course (EOC) exam to graduate.

  7. Did you know? The Class of 2015 and beyond must pass: Reading and Writing HSPE Algebra EOC Geometry EOC Biology EOC The Class of 2010 and beyond must earn 2.0 lab science credits (at least one must be Algebra-based: Biology, Chemistry or Physics) for acceptance to a 4 year college.

  8. On Track to Graduate ? To be on track for graduation, you should currently have, at least: • 9th Grade – 2.0 credits • 10th Grade - 7.0 credits • 11th Grade – 13.0 credits Juniors, you will need to have 16 credits by the end of June to be a Senior.

Making up Credit • Re-take course requirements at LHS • CLIP (Contracted Learning; Seniors have priority.) • District online eLearning program • Summer School (Tuition-based) • Correspondence classes (BYU, etc. Tuition-based) • Volunteer credit • Work credit • See your counselor for more information

  10. Review your Graduation Requirement Report and use it to figure out what classes you need to take next year. It is your responsibility to make sure you are meeting all graduation requirements! Advisory teachers will keep your Graduation Requirement Reportfor you. Go on Skyward if you want to review your Graduation Requirements.

  12. Using the LHS Course Planning Guide • The Course Planning Guide is only available online through the Lynnwood High School Website. • The following slides will show you where to find it and how to use it to help you choose the classes you want.

  13. Where to find the LHS Course Planning Guide Go to the LHS website http://www.edmonds.wednet.edu/lhs/site/default.asp and click on the “Counseling” tab. http://www.edmonds.wednet.edu/lhs/site/default.asp Then select LHS Course Planning Guide.

  14. A tip for finding information: When the Planning Guide opens, find what you are looking for by using the “Search” or “Find” function of your browser.

  15. For example, to find information on course Graphic Arts 1, type it in and hit “search.”

  16. All instances of Graphic Arts 1 appear and you can click on each item. Notice the first one takes you to the LHS Course Summary.

  18. Using the LHS Course Planning Guide Figure out where you stand with requirements (chart on page 6).

Using the LHS High School Planning Guide Figure out where you stand with requirements (chart on page 6). • Remember: • Once you complete an area, additional credits in that area are applied to “Electives” (ex. After you have 1.0 credits in Art, additional Art credits go to Electives). • In some instances, you may be able to use an equivalency to meet a requirement (ex. 2.0 Sports Med credit can be used for 1.0 PE credit.); see your counselor with questions. • Check your LHS graduation requirements against the requirements to apply to a four year college. College Admission Requirements Minimum College Admission Standards College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADR) English 4 credits Math 3 credits Sr.-year math-based quantitative course 1 credit* Science – Lab 2 credits** Social Science 3 credits World Language 2 credits Arts 1 credit Total 15 credits * Beginning with the class of 2012 and beyond, Quantitative Math-based course required in senior year; does not require higher level Math than current admissions policy. * Beginning with the class of 2010 and beyond, one credit of Algebra-based Science required for college admission. There is more information on college admission requirements in the Planning Guide.

  21. Using the LHS Course Planning Guide (cont.) The Table of Contents lists topics covered in the guide and also has school contact information. Print out the charts in the Course Planning Guide (example below) to develop your High School and Beyond Plan.

  24. Fields of Study Students can identify their FOS as early as 10th grade. Remember, FOS should guide you in choosing your classes. Should I take band for my FOS credit next year? I might major in Music Educ in college… Think I’ll take Accounting for my FOS credit next year. I want to start my own business after graduation. Business & Marketing Arts & Communication

  25. Using the LHS Course Planning Guide (cont.) The LHS Course Summary (page 18) provides a quick reference to course offerings. This is only a guide---read the full course description completely before you choose a course! Department course is under Course number - pay attention to 3 digits! Year (Y) or Semester (S) - In the library, enter both course numbers for year courses

  28. Registration Forms: Completing the form Use pencil except for signatures. Put your name and email address on your form. Required courses by grade level are already indicated. Check remaining choices against requirements. You will not be allowed to register without a completed form! Share your plans with your parents.

  29. Registration Forms: Completing the form All students should create a six period schedule. Students considering Running Start will still enroll in six classes, in case they change their mind about RS. The same applies for Sno-Isle TECH—students apply online separately to that program and will work with counselors to adjust their schedules if they are accepted. Students who plan on signing up for AP classes, must turn in their Commitment Form when they come to the library to register.

  34. Summary Choose courses carefully to meet graduation requirements and future plans. Fill out forms completely. Use the Elective Fair (March 1) to research options.

  35. Summary Go to the library with your English class on your assigned day; don’t be absent on your grade level’s day! (11th – 3/4; 10th – 3/5; 9th – 3/6) Students will need to turn in their Registration Form in the library—don’t forget yours! Turn in AP Commitment Forms, if this applies. You will need your LHS network and Skyward login and password; if you have forgotten them see Mr. Lyon (Network) or your counselor (Skyward).
