Purpose The goalof Pass Christian Elementary School’s House System is to promote positiverelationships, a sense of belonging and support between faculty and students, students and their peers and to give every student another caring adult to boost character education and to instill a sense of pride and excellence as a member of our Pirate Nation.

  5. How will it look? • Every student and staff member will be a part of one of five houses. • The houses will compete weekly to earn points. • Points will be awarded for different reasons throughout the year. • Each classroom teacher will have 50 points to award every week. Students will earn points for demonstrating different traits in the classroom. • Students may also earn points for iReady challenges, attendance, conduct, and academics.

  6. How will it look? continued... • Every week, the total points will be displayed outside of the cafeteria. The house with the most points for that week will have their flag flying for all to see. • Students must earn their way to a house challenge by meeting specific behavioral expectations. • Each nine weeks the house with the highest points will be recognized. The house with the highest points for the year will be rewarded with a field trip!

  7. House Meetings House meetings will provide an opportunity for students to meet with other house members (from other classes and grade levels) in order to learn about the character traits of their house, the character traits of other houses, and participate in STREAM challenges.

House Reveal During the first two weeks of school, the students will be introduced to the house system including the houses, the earning of points, the challenges and many other aspects of this exciting adventure! On August 23rd, the excitement will begin with the first of many fun activities. The houses will be chosen, the staff will participate in a house challenge, and the houses will experience their first meeting. Students will receive house t-shirts and bracelets to wear on Fridays throughout the year to show their house spirit.

  11. DIGNATIO Dignatio is a Latin word meaning DIGNITY. Character Trait- sense of pride in oneself; self esteem Animal- giraffe Hand Sign- right index finger and thumb together to form a circle with the last 3 fingers pointing straight up together to form the likes of a lowercase d. Place hand over the heart on the left side of the chest. Chant- (Adults); “Let’s Go” (kids) “Dignatio!”

  12. Prudentia is a Latin word for WISDOM. Character trait-discern inner qualities and relationships; good judgment. Animal- elephant Hand Sign-Take the right hand and forearm and make an up and down wave motion. Chant- “Prudentia, Prudentia. We don’t just fly (stomp, stomp) We Sooooooar!” • Prudentia

  13. Caridad Caridadis the Spanish word for CHARITY. Character Trait- generosity and helpfulness toward others Animal- bee Hand Sign- right and left hands clasp together; then shake back and forth. Chant- (adults) “A,B,C,D,E Caridad is the house for me! (kids) “Caridad is the house for me!” (adults) “F,G,H,I,J” (kids) “F,G,H,I,J” (adults) “We practice charity every day!” (kids) “We practice charity every day!”

  14. VALIENTE Valiente is the Spanish word for BRAVE. Character trait- showing courage Animal- lion Hand Sign- Curl the thumb and fingers of the right hand to form the likes of a lowercase “c” for courage. Place hand over the heart on the left side of the chest. Chant- “When I say Green, you say Valiente” “Green (Valiente) Green (Valiente)” “When I say Valiente, you say brave” Valiente (brave) Valiente (brave)” “When I say brave, let me hear you roar!” “Brave (roar) Brave (roar)”

  15. Mahalo Mahalo is Hawaiian for APPRECIATION. Character Trait- a feeling or expression of admiration and gratitude. Animal- dolphin Hand sign- right pinky and thumb fingers expended with the three middle fingers folded down to the palm to form the Hawaiian Shaka or “hang loose” sign. Then shake the hand side to side. Chant- “Mahalo, Mahalo (make the hand sign) Wiki, Wiki Walo (hula arms right and left) Ohana Forever (arms around shoulders) Pirates forever! (make pirate x with arms crossed).
