  4. Chhattisgarh–An Overview Agro Climatic Zones • Sub-divided into three agro climatic zones. • Geog. area : 138 lakh ha. • Forest cover : 63.36 lakh ha. (46%) Net sown area : 47.75 lakh ha. (35 % of its geog. area) • 57 % soil is medium to light. • Average rainfall : 1327 mm. • Net Irrigated Area : 16.87 lakh ha (35%) • Farm families : 37.46 lakh • 80% small & marginal Farmers • 32% ST, 12 % SC • Cropping intensity : 138 % Northern Hills Zone Chhattisgarh Plains Zone Bastar Plateau Zone 1

  6. Strategies Crop diversification – Replacement of uneconomical upland rice with suitable pulses and oilseeds. Varietal change in rice – (i) Early and mid duration suitable HY / hybrid varieties instead of late varieties to promote double cropping 3. Emphasis on maintaining soil health by adding organic manures/green manuring, balanced use of fertilizers and bio-fertilizers. 4. Use of stress tollrent varieties - Indira Barani Dhan, Sahbhagi, IR-64 DRT-1, Swarna Sub-1. 5. Promotion for use of soil ameliorants like lime and gypsum in problem soils. 6. Constitution of survey team for monitoring pest and disease incidence. 3

  7. Promotion of improved management practices RICE - (i) Thrust on line sowing with weedicide application instead of broadcasting- (ii) Emphasis on increase in area under transplantation / SRI (iii) Area expansion under hybrid rice : (iv) Crop demonstrations to promote green manuring : 4

  8. Contd. . . Pulses & Oilseeds : 1. Thrust on usage of High Yielding Quality Seeds. 2. Utilization of Rice bund for growing Arhar and Seasmum. 3. Seed Treatment and use of Rhizobium and PSB culture. 4. Intercropping of Arhar, Moong, Urd and Mustard. 5. Promotion of Sprinkler Irrigation Systems. 5

  9. Major State Initiatives 1. Separate Agriculture Budget for agriculture and allied departments/agencies. Budget provision : 2013-14 - Rs. 8,542 crore (17% of total budget), 2014-15 - Rs. 8,496 crore (15% of total budget) 2. Assistance to Cooperative institutions : (i) Interest free short term loan to farmers through Cooperative / Rural Banks. Budget provision (2013-14) Rs. 100 crore, 2014-15 - Rs. 140 crore (ii) Interest free loan to Markfed for pre positioning of chemical fertilizers to ensure adequate and timely supply. Budget provision (2013-14) Rs. 400 crore 2014-15 - Rs. 288 crore 3. Energy : (i) Assistance for energization of irrigation pumps upto Rs. 75000 per pumps. Budget provision (2013-14) Rs. 136.10 crore 2014-15 - Rs. 158.31 crore (ii) Assistance to State Power Distribution Co. Ltd. for providing free/subsidized electricity to farmers having irrigation pumps upto 5HP. Budget provision (2013-14) Rs. 270 crore 2014-15 - Rs. 300 crore 6

  10. Contd... Contd... 4. Incentive for Seed production and use : (i) Incentives to seed growers and farmers on Production and Distribution of quality seed. Production and distribution subsidy for Rice, Wheat, Ragi & Kodo-kutki - Rs. 500 per qtls. Production subsidy for Pulses - Rs. 1000 per qtls. Budget provision (2013-14) Rs. 46.80 crore 2014-15 - Rs. 49.88 crore 5. Mechanization :- (i) Financial assistance upto Rs. 10 Lakh each for establishment of Implement Custom Hiring Centre- Budget Provision 2014-15 - Rs. 10 Crores. 7

Inter Departmental Co-ordination with related line departments • Meetings at divisional level under the chairmanship of APC are organized prior to Khairf & Rabi crop season to discuss and address issues related with power irrigation agriculture inputs and credit. • Weekly review meeting at State and District level to resolve inter departmental issues and to monitor progress. 9

Future Strategies & road map for achieving higher production • Distribution of Soil Health Cards and thrust on application of soil nutrients as per recommendation. • Thrust on production and usage of quality seed to enhance SRR specially for pulses and oilseeds crop. • Utilization of rice fallow for increasing cropping intensity. • Efforts for up scaling of improved management practices like SRI, Line Sowing, Hybrid Seeds, Bund Cultivation, Intercropping etc. • Construction of checkdams / minor irrigation tanks for rain water harvesting. 10

  14. Post Harvest Management and Marketing Support • Adequate arrangement have been made for procurement of Rice and Maize at MSP. No. of procurement centres - 1,975 • Financial assistance to farmers upto Rs. 1.50 lakh each for construction of seed godown under NFSM (Local Initiative). No. of godowns constructed during 2014-15 - 138 11
