Cloud Computing Definition NIST: A model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. European Union: Elastic execution environment of resources involving multiple stakeholders and providing a metered service at multiple granularities for a specified level of quality. Gartner: A style of computing, whose massively scalable and elastic IT-related capabilities are provided as a service to external customers using Internet technologies. https://www.apps.gov Common understanding: Cost-effective and reliable services delivered through someone else’s data centers.

CS CC STC Focal Conferences 2013 • CCI will not have as many single, regional conferences • CS plans to financially or technically co-sponsor all conferences sponsored by CCI • CS CC STC plans for TCS of limited number of additional CS sponsored conferences (of the 100+ with “Cloud” as a keyword that CS currently supports)

CS CC STC Education Work 2012-2013 • Five Cloud modules- Focus on “decision makers” – CTO’s - 2 modules tried out at MAW in October, 2012 • Essential Sets – collection of papers to accompany courses • Reference Materials –all courses to be based on same references • White Paper on Cloud Computing

CS CC STC Education Work 2012-2013 • Conference videos as part of educational work: • CCI sponsored, CS recorded videos of interviews and panel discussions at CLOUD (Hawaii) and NA Cloud Congress (Anaheim) • CCI funded, IEEE.tv recorded videos at CCEM and CloudCom CS will be able to publish • Plans also for developing: • CC BoK • Certificates • Testbedfor use in the training courses.

CS CC STC Publishing Work: Transactions on Cloud Computing • New IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing: • Highly academic publication for peer reviewed articles on innovative research ideas & applications results • CS has 51% interest with ComSoc and other societies. • Status: • Approved • EIC search underway • Launch in January 2013.

CS CC STC Publishing Work: Cloud Computing Magazine • New IEEE Cloud Computing Magazine • Timely publication of research ideas, applications results, case studies • Topics on novel theory, algorithms, performance analyses , applications of techniques • + More accessible tech information: tutorials, surveys, implementations, technology reviews, lessons learned, policy & societal impacts; also news, conference reports, ... • CS has 75% interest. • Status: • Prototype printed in June ’12, currently being sent to conferences • May do a second prototype for use at 2013 conferences (~June 2013?) • Phase I of proposal is approved • Phase II approval expected November, 2012 • Launch in January 2014. http://www.computer.org/portal/documents/5291395/5866185/Cloud+mag+sample.pdf
