  10. LESSON OBJECTIVE • Action: • Describe the Simulator User Manual Contents. • Condition: • In a classroom environment. • Standards: • In accordance with the ATCoachTactical Edition PAR Simulator User Manual.

  11. User Manual • User Manual - Purpose. • Provides the user with the information necessary to understand the ATCoach Training System. • Designed for use in conjunction with FAA Order 7110.65. • Information contained in this manual is up to date for all systems installed with TED Build 1.0.0 or higher.

  12. User Manual • User Manual - Format. • To use this manual effectively, read the introductory material before you begin a chapter. • The chapters in this manual provide in-depth descriptions on how to run ATCoach, ATSetup, ATInstructor, and ATVoice recognition/response. • Chapters are set up in the following format:

  13. 1. INTRODUCTION 2. ATSETUP • Appendix D provides a table of the of the headings that the final controller can issue based upon the active runway. • Chapter 1 provides an overview of the system, equipment configuration, power-on procedures, login procedures, and application access. • Chapter 2 details the steps necessary to configure and invoke ATCoach exercises either in Standalone, Playback, or Error Check mode. • Chapter 3 details the instructor setup, how to manipulate an exercise, and how a student’s performance may be observed from the instructor’s situational display. • Chapter 5 provides detailed information about the various voice and keyboard commands that are used to manipulate simulated aircraft. • Chapter 4 covers the creation and maintenance of the data files used to run ATCoach; Scenario and Site files, the Aircraft Model file, the .atcinit file, and the Function Keys Configuration File. • Appendix C provides a list of the equivalent keyboard commands for the corresponding voice commands. • Index is self explanatory. • Chapter 7 provides a basic definition of scenario terms and the format required for scenario file creation and modification. • Chapter 8 provides extensive information on the Voice Recognition and Response (VRR) program that allows the user to verbally interact with ATCoach. • Appendix A explains the entry fields used in the Aircraft Model file. Each aircraft type has performance characteristics that must be present for ATCoach to function. • Chapter 6 provides site file entry definitions and the format necessary to create or modify a site file. • Appendix B lists and explains the entry fields used in the radar data file. The gpn22.dat file is used is used as an example. 3. ATINSTRUCTOR 4. ATCOACH FILES 5. ATCOACH COMMANDS 6. ATCOACH SITES 7. ATCOACH SCENARIOS 8. 18. Software • ATCoach Simulator Software. • ATCoach - Simulation Program. • Positions have their own ATCoach processes. • The ATCoach software is comprised of: • ATSetup • ATServer • ATInstr • ATVoice • ATSetup - Process that configures and invokes ATCoach exercises. • Before the exercise has started, ATSetup is used to configure one or more positions in either Standalone, Playback, or Error Check mode. • Can be started in two ways; instructor or student. • ATServer - Process that communicates the simulation data between the positions. • ATInstr Process that runs the instructor interface. • ATVoice Process that controls Voice Recognition and Response (VRR). • Based on the GTE/BBN HARK voice recognition system, ATVoice is a continuous, speaker independent system. • Does not require each user to "train" the system in order to have it recognize his or her own voice. • To access the ATCoach applications, press the right mouse button. • When ATSetup is invoked as a student position, it can be configured either as a standalone position or configured by the instructor position for use within another exercise. • When ATSetup is started as an instructor, that position is designated as an instructor position. • When the exercise is started, ATInstr will automatically run at this position. • Voice control system allowing the user to control the simulation system through voice commands. • Takes the place of pseudo pilots by accepting and implementing voice commands and generating the appropriate "pilot" responses to these commands. • Once this button is pressed the ATCoach Workspace Menu will appear. • The Workspace Menu is a simple method of accessing ATCoach and related programs.

  19. ATSetup (Instructor) Invokes ATSetup as an instructor for configuring an exercise. • ATSetup (Student) Invokes ATSetup as a student for instructor access & interaction. • Sites allows the user to either view or edit the site data file. All users may view the site file, however only users logged in under the atcdev account may edit it. • Scenarios allows the user to either view or edit the scenario files. All users may view a scenario file, however only users logged in under the atcdev account may edit it. • Aircraft Model file allows the user to either view or edit the aircraft model file. All users may view this file, however only users logged in under the atcdev account may edit it. • Initialization Data allows the user to either view or edit the .atcinit file. All users may view this file, however only users logged in under the atcdev account may edit it. • Voice displays a list of all of the aircraft call signs that can be used and recognized by ATVoice. • Errors allows the user to either view a log of any errors that may have occurred after an attempt to run an exercise has failed. • View Eval allows the user to view report generated by ATExpert if the student has had a violation. The scenario must be ended (CEND) so this file can be generated by ATExpert. • Reset Simulation allows the user to reset all ATCoach processes in the event of a system crash. • File Clean deletes all the student playback files that have been recorded.
