  1. KNMI status and plans for the coming year: – surface LER product– aerosol product enhancements Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) O3M SAF CDOP-2 PT Meeting, LATMOS, Paris, France, 22-23 May 2012

  2. Plans for 2012/2013: • Start developing the retrieval code • Analyse best settings for wavelength bands, thresholds, et cetera GOME-2 surface LER product: LER = Lambert Equivalent reflectivity • New dataset (offline product) • Support product for many trace gas, aerosol and cloud retrieval algorithms • Heritage: GOME-1 (1995–2000), OMI (2005–2008) • One product derived from the main science channels; another product derived from the PMD channels • Spatial resolution of surface LER database: 1° × 1° (MSC) & 0.5° × 0.5° (PMD) GOME-1 LER 772 nm OMI LER O3M SAF CDOP-2 PT Meeting, LATMOS, Paris, France, 22-23 May 2012

  3. Selection of wavelengths bands: GOME-1 LER database: 335,380,416,440,463,494,555,610,670,758,772 nm GOME-2 reflectance spectrum, showing GOME-1 LER wavelengths More wavelengths bands can/should be selected for GOME-2, especially in the UV  Input requested O3M SAF CDOP-2 PT Meeting, LATMOS, Paris, France, 22-23 May 2012

  4. CDOP-2: • Continue successful Absorbing Aerosol Index (AAI) product • New aerosol product types: Scattering Index (SCI, 340/380 nm) and Absorbing Aerosol Height (AAH, retrieved from the O2-A band) • AAI and SCI also retrieved from the PMD bands • Offline and NRT processing Aerosol product enhancements: PMD-AAI image from the Puyehue volcano three days after eruption PMD-AAI image from a dust plume from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano over Europe

  5. Plans for the coming year: • Adaption to instrument specific issues of Metop-B • Development and testing of the AAI product obtained from the PMD bands • Study of and adaptation for forward scattering photons in order to remove the artificial block of regions at the east of the GOME-2 swath O3M SAF CDOP-2 PT Meeting, LATMOS, Paris, France, 22-23 May 2012
