  1. Myths About The Bible The Old Testament Is Just As Binding As The New Testament

  2. 2 Timothy 2:15 (ASV) “Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth”

  3. The Bible is not some smorgasbord where one can pick and choose according to whim as to what they will accept as the truth of God (Rev. 22:18-19) • This passage infers that the word of truth can also be handled incorrectly • This would include: • Misquoting • Misapplying • Taking out of context • Applying commands that are not germane

  4. Teaching Of Jesus • Jesus lived His entire life under the Old Testament which was God’s law (Col. 2:14) • Jesus encouraged obedience to the OT while He lived (Matt. 23:1-2) • He was a pivotal point in a change in God’s dealing with men (Lk. 10:23-24) • A dramatic change was in progress (Jn. 4:20-24) • Jesus has all authority (Matt. 28:18-20)

  5. Excerpts From The Epistles • Righteousness is possible without the Law (Rom. 3:19-22). It is now through faith in Christ (Rom. 10:3; Phil. 3:9) • Legally (in God’s eyes) free to be bound to the law of Christ (Rom. 7:1-4) • Law was “till the Seed should come” (Gal. 3:19). The Seed was Christ (Gal. 3:16)

  6. Law was “wiped out” (NKJV) at Cross (Col. 2:14) • A number of different excerpts could be taken from Hebrews. We will look at three: • Change in the priesthood (Heb. 7:11-14) • A new covenant (Heb. 8:8-13) • Change in blood sacrifices (Heb. 9:11-15)
