  1. Myths About The IUD IUD is an intrauterine device which can be used as a contraceptive. This birth control device is usually small, and the coil is T-shaped. It has to be inserted inside the uterus of women, and it helps in avoiding pregnancy. It is one of the most popular contraceptive implants because it is one of the best ways to prevent the birth of a child. They are safe and can be used by adolescents as well. But, there are a lot of myths which are held by women due to which they avoid using an intrauterine device in India. We are going to clear out these myths about IUD. Body : 1) It is dangerous and might cause infertility and infections There have a lot of studies made by the WHO on thousands of women before disapproving this myth. Many women have been using IUD for a long time, and they have never run into the risk of infertility or any pelvic infection. There is no increased risk of infection due to the usage of IUD instead of any other contraceptive method; except condoms because they also protect from sexually transmitted diseases. 2) IUD should be only used by older women who already have kids because it is a big commitment One of the advantages of using IUD is, it lasts for really long starting from 3 to 6 years. But, that doesn't mean that it is a minimum requirement of a few years. You can get the IUD removed at any point of time according to your discretion. You need to remember that as soon as you remove the IUD, the contraceptive effect is gone. So, if you want to be sexually active later, you will need to use any other forms of contraception. 3) There is no gain in inserting IUD, but a lot of pain is involved The pain of inserting an IUD varies from person to person and is subjective. How much pain you are going to go through while inserting an IUD can't be determined earlier. There are even some methods which are going to make it less painful, but yes, there can be any magic pill that is going to make it null. There are some pills called Cytotec or misoprostol which can be used to minimize the pain, but a recent study has also proved that misoprostol doesn't work on the pain but makes it even more uncomfortable by discharging certain hormones. You need to consult your doctor before using any of these, and if recommended you can also go for the cervical block, which is local anesthesia given at the cervix region. 4) The IUD is going to poke your partner during intercourse The IUD is placed way below the reach of any partner. It is set at the fundus, inside the uterus and there are plastic strings which are attached at the end. These plastic rings are long enough so that they can be tied around the cervix The length of the average vagina is 6 inches, and the cervix is situated at the top of the vagina, so there is nothing to worry about. There are a lot of myths about contraceptive devices which prevail, but it is always safe that you consult your doctor or research about it thoroughly before buying it.
