  5. Introduction You are standing outside after a rain shower. You look into the sky and see a beautiful rainbow. You begin to wonder how the rainbow is made.

  6. Task When sunlight shines through raindrops in the sky, the light bends inside the raindrops and reflects into the colors we see. The rain acts like a prism and changes the white light into the colors of the rainbow. Everyone sees rainbows in different ways because each person is looking through different raindrops. To better understand what happens in this process you will be exploring the following questions. What are the colors in a rainbow? When can you see a rainbow? Why do we see rainbows? Describe a time when you saw a rainbow? Can you find the end of a rainbow? If you could find the end of a rainbow, what would you want to find there?

  7. Process You will form groups of two students. One student will be the scientist and the other student will be the weather man. You will work together searching the given websites to answer the questions about rainbows. When you have completed your research, you will create a PowerPoint presentation about what you have learned. This presentation needs to be 7 slides long. It will include a title page and a slide for each question. Once the presentation is completed you will prepare a short weather report about a rainbow you have seen in the sky. You will each talk about why this appears and some things you learned about them.

  8. Evaluation Students will be evaluated on the six questions they answer in their power point presentation. Students will be evaluated on the organization of their presentation. Students will be evaluated on their ability to work as a group. Students will be evaluated on the creativity and information presented in their video weather report.

  9. Conclusion Congratulations! You have completed your rainbow webquest and learned lots of new information. You all did such an amazing job on your presentations and weather reports!

  10. Ideas for later study… Create a picture of a rainbow you saw in the sky. Write a story about the first time you saw a rainbow. Create Rainbow Toast! Use bread, toaster, melted butter, food coloring, and a paint brush! Pick a color for your hand for the Hand Print Rainbow! Pick a rainbow story from the classroom and write two things you learned from the book.
