  2. Introduction • Why is reading the Bible so taxing? • Difficult to understand; overwhelming; boring. • Out of date; not relevant. • Many would rather read novels, magazines, etc. • Conclusion: No desire to study it.

  3. Why Study the Bible At All? • Edification: To stand approved before God. 2 Tim. 2:15 • Evangelism: Give a reason for the hope that lies within us. 1 Pet. 3:15 • Because we simply want to draw closer to our God!

  4. Without Purpose or Urgency… • Without purpose… there is no apparent need to study. cp. Acts 8:30-31 • Without urgency… there is no drive to study. • Without desire…there will be no genuine study.

  5. Keys to Effective Bible Study • Attitude! • Perseverance: learning is time consuming. • Bible Reading, Bible Reading, Bible Reading, etc. (connecting the dots: dots get closer and the picture becomes clearer).

  6. No Good Without Good Tools • You can study the Bible by just reading and discernment. • Your studies are greatly enhanced, however, with tools. • Studying the Bible without any or insufficient tools can be quite difficult!

Conclusion ~ Life Application • No Bible study has any value unless it affects you personally. • There is no desire to study unless we can appreciate the salvation given to us by God. • Because of our salvation we should long for souls to be saved…and give all an answer for the hope that lies within each of us!
