  1. Community Service By: Haley Thacker

  2. What is the Community Service and Service Learning? • “Service learning is a method of teaching that combines formal instruction with a related service in the community.” • Community Service is a volunteer act (without pay) that benefits and is done for the community

  3. Diamonds in the Dugout • Diamonds in the Dugout is a weekend baseball tournament put on in Valdosta by Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. In this double elimination tournament, we have teams come play from all around, including men’s leagues and fraternities. The money that is raised from the teams playing and all of the other activities is raising money for ADPi’s philanthropy, The Ronald McDonald House. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_learning

  4. What is the Ronald McDonald House? • The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of children. Guiding us in our mission are our core values: • Focusing on the critical needs of children. • Celebrating the diversity of the programs we offer and the staff, volunteers and donors who make them possible. • Staying true to our heritage of more than 36 years of responsible stewardship. • Operating with accountability and transparency.

  5. Some of my sisters that were in the ADPi team for Diamonds in the Dugout! The day some of me and my sisters went to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in Tallahassee, Florida.

  6. Me helping keep score for a team playing in the tournament! Me working at the BBQ stand helping making plates! We served BBQ from a local restaurant to make money for the RMH!

  7. Relay For Life What is Relay For Life? Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. http://www.cancer.org/Involved/Participate/RelayForLife/index

  8. ADPi Booth at Relay for Life Alpha Delta Pi teamed up with Phi Sig to have our own booth at the all-night event! We sold fruit and steak kabobs at our Hawaiian themed booth. We had a night of fun all to raise money for Cancer Research!

  9. Community Service and Service Learning were both a great way for me to get involved with the community. Every event that I was involved in did not even seem like volunteer “work”; it was so much fun! Being involved in community service not only makes you feel more connected to your community but is also for a great cause!
