  2. Sudan’s capital is khartoum • Khartoums population is 2,207,794 people • It is the largest city in Sudan • Khartoum doesn’t have many exotic animals, but it does have many farm animals like goats and horses to pull farm equipment.

  3. Location • Sudan’s relative location is it is surrounded by eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Dem. Rep. of Congo, Chad, Libya, and Egypt. • It is located also on the northeast coast of Africa. • Sudan also bordering the Red Sea.

  4. Main Geographic Features • The area of Sudan is 967,500 square miles. • Sudan is the largest country in Africa and almost the size of the continental U.S. east of the Mississippi river. • Sudan is mainly flat with some mountains in the east and west.

  5. Climate • The climate of Sudan is mostly desert and savanna in the north and the central regions and tropical in the south.

  6. Ethnic Groups • The people in the north are mostly Arab/Muslim and black African/Christian and Amist in the south. RELIGIOUS GROUPS • Sunni Muslim 70%; indigenous beliefs 25%; Christian 5%

  9. Most Used Language • Arabic is the official language in Sudan. • Other Languages; Nubian, Tu Bedawin, other Sudanic languages, and English.

  10. Health and Political Statistics • Unemployment rate: 18.7% (2002 est.) • Infant mortality rate: 86.98 of 1000. • Life expectancy: 50.28 years old • Inflation rate: 16.5%

  11. Government • There is not an official government because of prolonged civil wars. Provisional Government is the temporary government made by military coup in 1989 to present day

  12. Economy • Main exports:crude oil and petroleum products, cotton,gold, sorghum peanuts, gumarabic, sugar, meat, hides, live animals, and sesame seeds. • Annual income per person: $2,200

  13. More Economy • Gross domestic product: $97.5 billion • GDP percent: 9.6% • Land use:arable land: 6.78%; permanent crops: 0.17%; others: 93.05% • Major Trading partners:China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and India. • Work Force: 7.5 million

  14. Culture • Official name: Jamhuriyat as-Sudan • Flag description: three equal horizontal bands of red, white and black with a green isosceles triangle on the hoist side.
