  2. Schedule: • Morning Meeting starts each day • Language Arts block, including reading, writing and spelling • Reading Groups- 4x a week, homogenous grouping • Science twice a week • Library and Technology Combined • Touchpointsbegins with partner MeritasSchool (Topic- Biodiversity)

  3. Curriculum: Math • Pre and post assessments go home • 0-20 addition and subtraction facts should be secure by the end of the year

  4. Curriculum: Language • Reader’s Workshop • Genre studies – nonfiction, biography, mystery, poetry • Sitton spelling program continues • Writing increases across the curriculum using 6 + 1 Traits and Rubrics (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions and presentation)

  5. Curriculum: Social Studies • Units include: • Cultural studies • Immigration and Ellis Island • The Underground Railroad • New York neighborhoods: Chinatown, Lower East Side, Harlem, Little Italy

  6. 2nd Grade Highlights: • Field Trips: • Parent cultural lessons • Ellis Island and Castle Clinton • Tenement Museum • Neighborhood visits • MOMA • Apollo Theater • Arts on Stage- African Drumming • Poetry Event in April • Immigration Day in May • Touchpoints skit/debate
