3. What to expect as we dive into the school year together!

4. FISH Folders • FISH is an acronym for First grade Information Stored Here. • FISH books are organizational folder for students. It teaches your child organizational skills that will last for a lifetime! • This is a 8 pocket folder that replaces the typical take home folder. • It houses mostly EVERYTHING for the entire school year. • FISH Folder will be come home daily. Please make sure that you check and return it daily. • FISH Folders are $5.00

5. FISH Folders FISH Folder contain: • Return to School Pocket • Money and Note Pouch • Homework pouch • Behavior Chart (Please initial daily.) • Newsletter • Reading Passage/Comprehension • Spelling Words & Sight Words • Leave at Home Pocket • Contact Information and schedule (In Back Sleeve)

6. AttendancePage 5 in CES handbook • Cars unload in the morning at 7:15am. Tardy bells rings at 7:45. • Buses will load at in the afternoon at 2:25pm and car riders will be released at 2:25pm. Please pick up car riders by 2:50. • Prompt & regular attendance at school provides students with the skills needed for future success and good character. • A written note form the parent/guardian must be provided within 3 school days of absence. • More than 20 excused or unexcused absences may result in consideration for retention • No pre-approved absences before October 1, 2015.

7. TardiesPage 6 in CES handbook • Tardy bell rings at 7:45am. If a child is tardy, parents must bring the student into the front office and check in. (Check outs are also considered a tardy) • Only an excused tardy permits work to be made up. • 7th unexcused tardy – Parent is notified by letter & conference with principal • 10th unexcused tardy – Parent Conference with attendance supervisor • 15 unexcused tardy – Early Warning Truancy conference & 2 days detention • 20th unexcused tardy – 3 days detention.

8. Breakfast & Lunch • Please make sure you fill out an application. (www.schoollunchapp.com) • Each child will be assigned a 3-5 digit lunch number. • For those children who had money left in their account at the end of the previous school year, their money will roll over to their new account. • Please try to send money in on a Mondays and pay weekly or monthly. My School Bucks www.myschoolbuck.com This site will allow you to: • Pay for your child’s meals online. • Set up automatic email reminders to inform you when a payment is needed. • Make payments for all your children even if they attend different school. • View your child’s cafeteria purchases & get information on food your child eats at school.

10. Snack • Please make sure your child has snack or money for snack each day. • Snack money can only be sent daily. • Please send cash only and the exact amount. Snack ----- $ .75 Juice ------ $ .75

11. Transportation • Please make sure I know how your child gets home!! There is a sheet on top of your blue folder that needs to be filled out BEFORE you leave. • Make sure that your child wears the nametag in the blue folder on the first day!! • Also I will put a transportation tag on your child the first day. PLEASE make sure they return it to school for at least the first two weeks!! • School begins on August 8th. Please have your child here by 7:45 . They will be dismissed at 2:25. • Read Car Procedures very carefully in CES handbook! • If you park in the front parking lot from 1:15-2:15 you will be blocked in by car riders. • If your child’s transportation changes please have it in writing by 2:00! The office is not accepting phone calls so please email Myrtle in the office of ANY changes. Put child’s name and my name on your email. • YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PARK IN THE GRASSY FIELD ANYMORE. 

12. Grading • Students will receive grades on their report cards for the following subjects: • Reading (numerical grade) • Language Arts (numerical grade) • Math (numerical grade) • Social Science (letter grade) • Conduct (letter grade) • Physical Education (letter grade) • Graded work will be sent home on Thursdays in a graded folder. Please sign and date the front of the folder and send all work back in folder the following day. • All curriculum guides are posted on the Elmore County Website. • Please do spelling homework, math homework, blue AR folders and read the reading passage every night! • Promotion and retention will be discussed at Parent Conference Day.

13. Behavior • Inside the FISH notebook there will be a behavior pouch. I will allow your child to color in their starfish daily. Please check and initial this DAILY! • CES passes out Gotchas. A Gotcha is given when your child is caught making a good choice. If your child is caught making a bad choice they will be given a MBI (Minor Behavior Incident).

14. Additional Classes Physical Education • We will have PE everyday. Please make sure that your child always has a pair of tennis & socks for PE. Computer Lab • We will have Computer Lab every other week. Music Education • We will have Music class every other week. Our music teacher is Mrs. Galanopolas. Her room is located in the Purple Pod. Group Counseling • We will have Group Counseling ever other week. Our counselor will be Mrs. Agee. Her office is located in First Grade Red Pod. Media Center • We will have library ever other week. Our Media Specialist is Mrs. Prickett.

15. Websites • www.mycoosada.com This is CES’s official school website. On this website you can subscribe to an email listing. You will receive emails from the school telling about upcoming events and fun news from the school. • www.elmoreco.com This is our county website. You will have access to all curriculum guides, school calendar, lunch/breakfast menu and more. • Coosada also has a Facebook page. Please like it! ****There will be not be any blogs this year!*****

16. Important Information • School begins on August 8, 2016. • The school doors will not open until 7:15am. Please do not drop your child off before this time. • The tardy bell rings at 7:45am. If your child is late please make sure you get a tardy slip from the office. You child can not enter the classroom late without a tardy slip. • School will be dismissed at 2:25pm. Car rides should be picked up no later than 2:50pm. • .

17. Supplies • A supply list is in your open house packet. • $6.00 Field Trip T-shirts • Will be worn on all field trips and special events. You will get to take them home at the end of the year! • $5.00 FISH Folder • Will be our communication binder for the entire school year. • $10.00 Donation • Will be put into our classroom account for supplies, arts & craft and equipment. • $10.00 for PTO (This is optional but they do A LOT to support our school. There a table in the hallway.) • Headphones (Please put name on them.) • .

18. Please return the following items by the first day of first grade! • Volunteer Sheets • All Forms • Handbook (County and School) • Library (front and back) • Lunch (with Social Security #) • Address Verification • Student Information Sheet • Internet • Textbook • Classroom Library • Please fill out volunteer sheet…I love parents being involved in their child’s education!! • Any other forms in packet Background Checks are not to be signed until they are notarized.

19. WISH LIST • Volunteers to help at school with AR, TO COPY, ETC. • Zip-lock bags (any size) • Volunteers to cut out, etc. • Avery Labels (any size) • Chap thin paper plates, both sizes. • T-shirt transfers • Paper products: small/big paper plates, forks, spoons, paper bowls • Fabric paint (any color) • Gift Cards (Wal-Mart, Office Depot, Turtle Shell, Dollar Tree, etc...) • Any item from the fish jar (located on the back table) • Monetary donations to be put into our classroom account for supplies & equipment • .

22. Before you leave….. • MAKE Sure that I know HOW your child gets HOME!!! Bus list are on the table! • Check out the FISH Jar! Take a fish and bring that item(s) back to school. This jar is on the back table. • Have fun on the scavenger hunt. • As you leave school, check out the PTO table, Good News table, and CES counselors are selling CES shirts for $10.00. • Get your picture taken by yourself and with your family!
